My furnace stops, but the blower keeps going.

I hit the front of the furnace and it stops/kicks out, until the furnace kicks on again, then it comes back on like it is supposed to. Then when the furnace kicks out again, the F***in blower keeps going. So I hit it again. :D

I don't even have to hit it very hard to make it kick out.

I have cleaned and tightened ever connection that I can get to, and i'm tired of searching the net for an answer.

Any ideas?

If there is a heat build up inside the furnace the fan will continue to run until the temp is normal even after you've set the thermostat below ambient temp.

Also you could have a setting on your control unit that causes the fan to stay running for " air", mine has that and went through the same prob.

Could be the starter solenoid for the fan if it stops when you kick/hit it

We have an appliance coverage plan on our furnace, washer/dryer, and dish washer through the electrical company here. It's like 17 bucks a month. They come and fix it free. If anything is unfixable they buy us a brand new one. Everyone should do it. If it's available in Canada.

We got the same thing to.. for our furnace/firplace/stove/water heater, its a protection plan which includes a annual cleaning and covers anything that breaks. I had the furnace go 2 years ago in the dead of winter,, like -15 out.. they came over,, it needed a special solenoid which they didn't have in stock,, the left us a gas space heater and came out the next day with a new furnace.. didn't cost us a dime..

yea theres a bimetal temperature switch in your furnace that heats up and activates the blower and then shuts the blower off when the heats off, that sounds like the problem, after so many thousands of cycles those switches just fail.. call a heating cooling compnay and describe your problem so the repair guy comes with the right part right away, or go to home hardware and try their knowledge over there, maybe they can direct you to the part you need, im sure its called a bimetal switch or something along the lines of that

I don't think it's the control unit, because i put in a new Honeywell digital display last year. I checked all those connections and sh*t to.

The furnace kicks out, but the blower just keeps going(blowing cold air), eventually(when the temp in the house drops below where i have it set) the furnace just kicks back in. The blower is going non-stop.

It's probably this switch that Casino is talking about.

Thanx people!

Bulldogger 09-10-2004 09:15 AM

Start dancing, you called it. It was the bimetal switch.
