Home Theater subwoofer..

Well I just purchased a Dayton amp from Parts Express (1000 watts RMS at 4 ohms) and now I need a sub to go with it. I was thinking Mach 5.

I'd like to do a single 18", so I was looking at the IXL-18.4.

I'm not sure on box design, but I have almost unlimited space. Any suggestions?

FYI... Mach 5 has a sale on today only... so you can save a few bucks if you decide to go with one of their subs

I had seen their sale on. I'm almost thinking of picking up one of their SPL 12s, trying to get my car Street A ready, and using my RE SX18 in the living room.

well I just did just that. I bought a SPL 12 from a fellow competitor, so I'll be using the 18 in the living room. Now could anyone tell me which would be more likely to get louder, the ABC I have designed (enclosure forum), or a transmission line?

Holy crap dude.....you're going to run 1KW into an 18" and you're worried about getting more volume.....heheheh

Personally I'd do a simple ported box tuned as low as you can, driver facing forward and ported to the rear. Park it about 6-12" away from the wall and let 'er rip. If you can set it in a corner it would be even better.

One thing I always keep in mind when building a HT box is the fact that response is so different in a room as opposed to a car. One of my favourite tests for a HT sub is the scene in Jurassic Park when the T-Rex shows up for the first time, rippling the surface of the glass of water. That tone is a 10hz fundamental, and if you ever saw the movie in an Imax theatre that would be one of the few places that reproduces it properly. The reason?....all Imax theatres use sealed 18" JBL subs.....

Have fun with it.....I hope your amplification for the rest of the sound can keep up with the sub...it will be very loud....
