Home Theatre Troubles
Okay, so I'm watching my projection TV the other day and all of a sudden I hear a small 'pop'. The screen goes black for less than a second and then, everything has a pink tinge to it that will not go away.
I had a tech guy come up from Richmond Hill to look at it and he said that the red gun is gonzo and needs to be replaced. He gave me a ballpark figure, saying that for my Hitachi 43FDX20B, we're talking $500 for that gun. Add in labour and it's likely 200$. Wouldn't you know it -- the warranty ran out a few months ago.
Does anyone know about this kind of stuff?
Can I find a lower cost anywhere? At least on labour?

I'm sure that if you bitched enough they might give you some sort of warranty, if it is only a month or 2 over. Just tell them that this is crap and ask if all T.V's crap out after warranty, pretty much make a huge stink about it and they might help you out a little, especially if there are other customers there.

I agree. If you give a good bitching sesson over it they would probably cut you a deal. Cause you know that all that stuff is just overpriced for them to make money. So even with them cutting you a deal they are still making money. So if you complain enough I am sure they'd give in. Especially being as how the warranty just expired. Just bitch and they'll do something!

Well I do know for a fact that T.V's are not very much overpriced, a 51" Sony is only about 4-600 dollars overpriced, there is not much room for lead way. But I know that bitching is a good way of getting warranty work done.

^ Yeah, most bigscreens sell for under $600 profit. That ain't much.
Oooh - an FDX eh? Supposed to be the best looking guns you can buy. Email Hitachi Canada and explain your plight - they may be sympathetic.
That is a very odd problem for a Hitachi.

I worked at Sears for a few years and for a customer to get what they wanted all they had to do was stomp their feet loud enough. Be nice but be firm. Ask to speak to a manager if you have to. Keep going up the ladder till you get what you want. It always works unless you're rude about it.
Ya, good ideas. WTF?
I suppose when you bought your tv they gave you an option to purchase extended service and you said "no, i'll buy a new one if breaks" or "if it dosen't break in the first year, it'll never break!"
Not Hitachi's problem anymore or the dealers, it's yours. Why do you think it had only one year warranty to begin with?

once the gun(s) go, you're almost further ahead to sell the tv, and buy that fp you've always wanted...
seriously though, you can bitch till you're blue in the face, I wouldn't expect them to replace the gun. at best you might get a discount on it, but the guns will die - it's just a matter of time - and like burn in, no tv company is going to comp them outta warranty.
