So I decide that I dont want to pay the $8-10 per month for balance payment insurance on my AMEX.. I think the odds of dismemberment holding me back from paying my statement are low. I was weaseled into accepting this insurance in the first place, but I accepted knowing that I would probably cancel it down the road.
The guy I talked to was unbelievable. Not only did he spend 10 minutes trying to talk me out of it, but when he finally said "okay sir, its your life" I almost laughed. He then proceeded to tell me about three different kinds of insurance and protection, just incase I spontaneously combust, or get killed by public transit. I wound up getting in an argument with him, because he would not stop! I kept saying "no really, I'm REALLY not interested", and he proceeded to inform me of additional 'card member benefits'. I wound up telling him "If you mention one more card member benefit, insurance policy, travel insurance, fire insurance, public transit insurance, flood insurance or dismemberment insurance policy to me, you can do ahead and cancel my AMEX". He didn't say another word, but informed me that I had to call another 1-800 number to speak to the balance insurance people... Oh man, that hit a sour note in me.. So I call the number, and low and behold, I get to go through the same thing all over again. The woman on the phone spent a solid 15 minutes arguing with me about the benefits of balance payment insurance, finally she says "Sir, do you realize that you have a balance of $200, and should you become dismembered, how will you pay this off".. so I say "can you hold the line for just a quick second" I run over to my computer, logon to my internet banking, and pay the balance, "Oh, wow.. there it is, I paid the $200 balance, that was difficult.. Looks like I have a zero balance now, guess I don't have to worry about balance insurance, since I can cancel my card now" I hung up on her, and called the regular AMEX number back, and cancelled my card. When they asked me why, I had quite the story for them.. The CSR forwarded me to a manager, because of the very dark tone I had in my voice. The manager spent about 2 minutes talking me out of it, and appologizing for the persistance of the CSRs and finally realized I was dead serious about my threat to cancel the card, and voila, it was cancelled. In the end, I didn't care too much, since I started using one of my other cards as a primary, but it was the principal behind the whole thing. I was so fed up of receiving mail from them in this regard, and I wasted close to 30 minutes arguing with CSRs. Very unprofessional. Anyways, just thought I'd vent a little Anyone else have similar experiences? |
hey man itz their job they get paid to do it gotta give them credit for even having the gutz to lol They wer estarting to make us do **** like that way back in my old job at Sears, they had us cramming salez, telephone long distance, and flowerz down their throatz at the end of the callz.

No thank you i'll just have my total thanks. Alright it comes to $..... and before you go can i interest you in our sears connect long distance phone plan ( we had a 2 minute script to read for tha tone )no thank you. and one more moment mam/sir I overheard someone is having a birthday? We have wonderful arrangements of flowers now offered at Flowers by Sears can I *Click* lol We had to cram ALL that oh yah and during the order if a 'cross sale' came up we had to tell them about that too! We had to say all that when our customer was simply calling up to either order from a catalogue, get a balance on their sears card etc. Oh and whe nthey didnt have a sears card we had to promote that too!!! I was against all that so I would promote the sears card RARELY and then promote sales when there was an actual deal on. It killed me when they would list itemz that werent really on sale we'd promote it they'd look it u pand oh itz the same price. lol We got paid $5 per approved sears card and approved sears connect long distance account. and then like .01 percent of the other salez w emade lol Like i said i was against it cuz i know if i was calling in to place a quic korder id do the order then click lol hang up. that shiz drivez ppl crazy no wonder they bit ch so muc hto lol also I called to activate my visa said yes to that balance protection and they told me first 3 months are free, first statement it was on there and Iwas like dont think so and called them back to cancel and I spent 30minutes on the phone with them to cancel that stupid protection it was like NO NO NO NO Listen carefully NO CANCEL IT! Ok lemme transfer u! lol same thing man I feel ur pain lol |
I used to have to do similar things when I worked at bestbuy, had to push the 'Performance Profit Plan' err, Performance service plan on all the customers, what a heap of bullsh!t that was. I couldn't stand pusing customers to buy things they didnt want, and didnt need. Thats probably why I was such a lousy sales person. All I ever did was give the customer the honest truth about products, and if I thought the extended 100% profit warrantee was a good idea for the customer, I would mention it, but if they were not interested, then I wouldn't push it. I got in a ton of trouble one day for telling a customer that the Performance serivice plan was a waste of money on a pair of bookshelf speakers. Almost got fired for it too

hey man, i never thought i would use the insurance on my visa, but i figured "hey, its only a few bucks a month..." and boy, I SURE AM GLAD I had it...
|
^ Hey in your case did they pay off the balance, or do they just hold it over until you can pay?
|
Mastercard thank god never gives me any hassle.
|
they just pay the interest until i can work again. I dont make it any farther ahead, but i dont get killed in interest either. Same with my car loan.
