Luckily I live 3miles or so from the US border so I do exactly that - I just go and get it from my mailbox in the US.

Customs is rarely interested in the stuff I get anyway - there's no duty on diecasts and most stereo stuff so really they are only interested in PST/GST if it's over $30-40 value.
You collect die casts too? we might have to talk about this mailbox of yours

Huge money saver... UPS charges like $40 or $50 just for the paperwork!
actually the brokerage fee u pay to UPS or fedex isnt for filling out paperwork (i thought this too) its because UPS and Fedex have to pay canada customs to inspect our packages so they can be legally cleared, the reason canada post/usps can charge 5$ a package is because they are government owned and thus dont have to pay customs to inspect because the money would be basically paid to itself,

so UPS doesnt pocket the whole brokerage fee and laugh to the bank, they might make a couple bucks a shipment but the rest goes to mr martin and his buddies to **** away in the next adscam.....

also UPS owns numberous brokerage houses and we are relatively uneffected by the customs strike as they only inspect a small percentage of our overall volume, usually the only time we have lengthly delays due to customs is a paperwork error on the part of the shipper, ie no declared value, or an incorrect value/description of goods.
