Importing Music from CD to iPod

Does anybody know if it's possible for me to transfer music straight from a CD onto an iPod? Or do I have to rip every CD to my hard drive then put it on the iPod?

Thanks for any help or advise.

for riping music i like to use the program exact audio copy. and then get the lame.exe encoder. you can set it up so it uses a variable bit rate. that way you get smaller file sizes but them music better quality. i cant tell the difference between the origional cd's and my mp3's

I dont have a problem ripping the music to my computer. Its just that it takes a lot of time and I was hoping there was a faster way.
