Beater Truck 01-05-2006 07:51 PM

The year thing is the law, nothing against the accidents. From what i understand, when i was looking at a TT300zx, they have to be 15yrs old to the day. And then i was told the law might be changing to 20, i guess its to protect the local market, so peeps dont buy all imported stuff. On a side note, most cars/trucks that you do import are in great shape for thier age. They look like 3to5yrs old for a interior, where as most cars of same age, dont even compair to them.

One thing to look for on some imports is engine bay and how they drive. When I was looking into a TT300 the year I wanted had probs with electrical in the enginebay. So do research on the car/truck your looking at. There are alot of sites with info on them for the goods and bads on them, so you dont get a surprise when it breaks down.

Even if law gets changed, i think ill still get a import just to be different, plus the resale will be good on it also

Few things to clarify:

The 15 year law is from Transport Canada. Foreign spec cars don't meet Canadian safety requirements, but there is a waiver for 15 year old + cars. Nothing to do with anything else.

R33 Skyline, either it's not street legal, or maybe registered in the USA. Or he pulled some funny paperwork and it's registered as a kit car, or a conversion of a permitted car, IDK.

If you're gonna get a 850, 850CSi > all.

so what would happen to say a '90 R32 if it was registered right now? would they not be able to insure it anymore? or what?

Once its brought in.. its brought in.. once its registered they can't order it back off the road.. if they did that would be utterly retarded... theres TONS of vehicles here on the road from all over the world.... that are 15 years old or so.. to order them all off the road would be pretty harsh... and probably impossible.. I dont know about that law.. I just hope it doesn't go through. (if there is such a law... I'll write an email to one of the importers and ask to see whats up.
