Who's had it and what is the average pricing?

deyton 07-29-2005 07:53 PM

My mom got it on sale in 2000... two for one! I think it ended up being $1700 for both eyes, but I could be wrong.

I have a friend who is going to get it in a couple weeks. He is paying $450 per eye.

Hmmm, pricing in Victoria and Vancouver is over $2500.00 currently. Keep the info coming.

Hmm i was just thinkin about this exact same thing. I've heard that you lose some of your night vision after the experience....is that true?

Sorry don't mean to hijack the thread, just add to it.

Furthermore, a buddies friend just had it done recently and he paid 600-650 per eye in or around edmonton.

Just saw ad's on tv for 250/eye heh. Probably US though.

Had LASIK one month ago. I have 20/20 vision. I have no dryness, blurriness or night vision problems. Make sure you do your research. I paid $2,800 all in. That included all pre op and post op checkups, the surgery and lifetime touchups. Research the surgeon. The rate of complication decreases substantially after they have 300 and 600 surgeries. Research the laser. The best is the Bausch & Lomb laser. Statistics show there is a substantial increase in rate of success over other LASIK lasers. Ensure there is an eye tracker system to move the laser in concert with your natural eye movement. Research the laser beam pattern. The older beams are larger and the ablation areas are not as smooth. Do not just go with the low cost provider. Its your eyes, pay for the best. You can't replace them.

It depends on your benefits provider. The reson being is that some see it as an investment ie. instead of paying for glasses/contacts fro the rest of your life the insurance provider spends the money for Lasik (or part of the cost for you) and saves over the years not having to provide you with eyewear again.

Keenan gave you pretty much all the info you need. As for pricing it is different at each location. Many have a website you can check for much of the information you need for pricing and the research of the practice.
Mine would have been ~$1600 with all fee's at a place I was content with but after my consult they said it wasn't worth getting the surgery as my eye's really weren't bad enough to warrant it as far as the correction they could offer (one eye almost perfect the other has astigmatism but isn't too bad).

Good luck!

Oh and my mom's was done in edmonton. Her eyes were actually quite terrible, borderline too bad for them to even attempt. Right now her vision isn't quite as good as at first but she definitely doesn't need glasses. About six months after the surgery she somehow managed to pour bleach in her eye, but it was OK.

Edit:
Furthermore, I found it quite amusing that in the waiting room they were showing videos of other people actually getting laser eye surgery. I think the TV may have just been on discovery and it came on coincidentally.
