when my monitor broke down i tried various t20" monitors and what not....and i actually rather disliked the widescreen. I have absolutely no reason for it, but i do like to have a webpage on top and a messenger window along the bottom of hte window and i lost the abilitiy to do so with the loss in height of th emonitor...so i wasn't enthuised abotu that by any means...and my spelling/typing is horrid.
I'd personally go with this one:

and i actually just suggested that one to someone else.

I have a 20" widescreen and I love it, the extra space on the sides compared to a 4:3 aspect monitor is awesome. Even better for gaming, as you get a better FOV, and the wider aspect will help you get into the game more. Never used mine for movies really, but it can only be good.
Personally I would suggest a 20" so you can get the higher resolution, but if you don't want to spend the extra, I'm sure you'll still be satisfied with the 19".
Nice price on a 20" widescreen: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=17734&vpn=FP202W&manufacture=BENQ

Both the Acer and Samsung would be great for movies, and because they both have DVI, they technically would do well at gaming. The Samsung has a higher contrast ratio meaning it will be brighter, but for gaming I would try and find a monitor that is not wide screen, and has 0.264mm pitch, max 8ms, vga and dvi, no less than 1280 x 1024, and no less than 500:1 contrast ratio. I bought an acer last year.. (al1715) 17", vga and dvi, 8ms, .264, 1280 x 1024, 600:1, and combined with a BFG GeForce dual DVI 6600GT-OC vid card, plays Counter Strike Source without blinking, and if you do graphics, this would be a great choice.
My 2 cents
