Looking for advice on a TV
 

Hey all,

I am in the market for a new TV but I am on a budget because of other reasons but I do need a tv. I have like a budget of around $1300 but I would like a new tv that is a good TV. I have been looking around futureshop and Best Buy but everything I find is way over my crappy budget.

I was wondering if any of you guys/gals could advise me on a tv that maybe I am not aware of or anything.

So far I haven't really found anything. I need to check out Walmart.

Basically I would prefer a LCD since they are so easy to move around but I wouldn't be against a rear projection.

So any help is great

do you have a size in mind?

I have a 47" Panasonic Widescreen RPTV and I love it. It was 1000.00 on sale. Add 200 bucks for a 5 year warranty and I am set for a good while now. Absolutely nothing wrong with a RPTV. People may tell you to stay away from them for this reason or that reason, but truth is there are downfalls to every type of picture tube! Mine looks fantastic, I've had it for about a year now and I couldn't be happier!

^ Aside from *maybe* a high dollar plasma that I could never afford, I would stick solely to rear projection TVs. I can't watch LCDs - they look like crap.

I used to work at Radioshack and my Boss who has been an electronics enthusiast for years also preferred rear projection tvs.
What are you reasons for not wanting rear projection?

This is kinda off topic, kinda on topic. I always hear people comparing LCD's to Rear projection and them to DLP's.

fit in. I always thought it was a rear projection LCD (techncially it is). Because it's different from straight LCD (like a notebook computer) and different from a CRT which is also kinda rear projection. Whats the proper terminology here???

People like to try and criticize RPTV CRT's due to burn in. However, almost all newer models are not very prone to it. People say stay away from plasma for the same reason, but most of those new ones have anti burn in features. Now some people don't like DLP because your images can lag or suffer from ghosting while playing videogames. LCD's suffer from dead pixels on occasion. So really no matter which type you choose there are ups and down. As long as you have a good warranty on it though, I'd just go look at them and grab whichever technology looks the best to you.

Hardcore Superstar, that is a very nice TV. If I had had the money at the time of buying my current TV I would have gone with LCD myself. Just because I play a ton of video games and most people agree LCD's look the best for video games.

I was under the impression that LCd doesn't display true colour.. where's as plasma/crt does? If that's the case would that not make it all that great for video games due various colours used in a game?

had rear projection, lots of them, i now own a high defention 42" plasma and would NEVER EVER EVER go back, rear projection=casette, plasma=cd, in your budget i would stay away from projection and look for a big flatscreen tube, you will get a far better pic that with a rear projection, just go to your local tv store and look at the difference between a projection, tube and plasma ,the differences are quite obvious
