OK this is rediculous i'm going on like 2 hours for this damn program to install....i don't even know if it's running or mysteriously locked up or what anymore.

Normally takes about 30-35 minutes.

It does take a long time and usually you think the computer is froozen but it's not. I found a way to I can do the update in about 10 minutes. I first download and update Internet Explorer which also updates other litle things. Then when I run SP1 it takes 5 minutes. Was really weird when I did it. I almost had a heart attack that I saw it was done so fast.

30-35 minutes? Yeah right maybe on like windows 3.1

SP1 takes a long time, I have an XP2800 chip, and it took probably 20 minutes ... 5 minutes would be completely unattainable.

In any case, are you talking about the downloading part? THAT can take forever if you're on a bad connection.

On another note, what took you so long to install SP1 SP2 will be out in a few months.

well i had formatted my pc, cause it was pissing me off, and generally just isn't a big deal, all important things are on another hard drive on the pc.

So i formatted, installed xp as normal and got the msblaster virus which i'd never seen. Now being that the copy of windows wasn't one hundred percent (i'll say cause the cd was scratched) i thuoght maybe it was the cd messing up...so i formatted and installed again...same thing, formatted and installed windows 98...let me tell you how much windows 98 sucks! anwyays after a couple days of that, i found out i had the msblaster virus which was causeing my computer to repeatedly restart.

Installed windows xp again, downloaded about 30 programs installed them along with drivers-and finally SP1 took probably 2 hours (not to mention i was also downloading 3 movies and 2 cd's  and try'n to install macromedia flash and shockwave. But all in all, it did finally complete, just took a long time. Threw in a serial number cause strangely unless i do the upgrade windows doesn't ask for it during install, just tells you it needs it to install SP1.

So thats how things went. I suppose the fact that i'm putting all this pressure on a celeron 400mhz could be my problem. I am slowly working on getting an amd2500 here though.

Ettore Casagrande Jr. 06-28-2004 05:54 PM

hehe 400MHz was your problem, not a great chip to try and multi-task. 288MB of Ram is a good amount for WinXP, but winXP swaps stuff into and out of RAM a lot; so it needs to be fast (ie: not PC66 or 100 ... whatever you have).

Try NCIX.com, good prices on computer parts.

yeah...ncix is where i've always priced on...found a decent alberta site, but they don't carry the particular motherboard i was gonna go with which is a lil heart break. But who knows, now that everything is working again it doesn't seem so bad....so :S

crazyravr 06-29-2004 05:03 AM

As a side note... does anyone know a way to install SP1 on not so legal copy of XP ?
