Alright so I have $100 to kill somehow tomorrow and an MP3 player is an option.

I quite like the ones that look like flash drives that are USB you just plug it in.

My question and I know its been asked before I can't remember off the top of my head but its generally a different level of the same question...

What size would you go with. I'm thinking 1.0gb cuz I can fit a crap load of songs on there, but 128mb - 256mb how many songs were you able to fit on it if you have one or know of someone who does

I have a 64 meg one and I can fit 8 songs on it. Look at maybe a Minidisc player too. I use it alot more. Mini Discs are pretty cheap and you can fit a good 40+ songs on one at a decent bitrate level.

Minidiscs are garbage... you need to recompress the music into crappy ATRAC3 propreity format which is 132kbps stereo. The ATRAC3 codec is horrendous, the artifacts of compression are evident in the shrill ringing highs and muddy bass.

My first and last MD was a SONY MZN-505 and it was crap. If you care about sound quality I would not buy a crappy Sony MD.

Oh, and their propriety software is garbage. It takes literally 20 minutes to fill up a MD with 160 minutes of music. With my iPod I can transfer that much music in literally 20 seconds.

The only grip I have with Sony is their software. It's clumby and difficult to use. If I could afford an Ipod or Iriver, I would, but for now Md works fine.

df I agree that would be cool (expansion slot)

Zach I'd look into those Mini Disc players however I just want the compactness they offer in the flash ones that look like the flash memory sticks. Also I have a cheap yepp one I got a couple christmas' ago that holds 9 songs 32mb (128kbs quality songs). And I dont really like that one anymore so I'm lookin for better.

I'd like to get at least 50 songs on one of these and it would be perfect. So far I'm lookin at one by Creative Labs:

Only in the 256.

If you want a flash player, 256 is the minimium I would go with.

Size doesn't matter if you can find one with an expansion slot. At least with the expansion slot you can add more storage later. Plus, cards are getting cheaper all the time. I got an MP3 player for my son last Christmas. Battery charge life is an important feature for him. Stuck on the bus from Langley to SFU can turn out to be a real long time. Also has FM radio. I think it was a WeWa brand (big MP3 brand name in Asia). FS and Best Buy had a Rio with expansion slot and FM for 129 bucks.

I just bought a Curtis 256 MP3 player that was $89.99. Seems good enough.

There is also a Scandisk mp3 player that was $249 and after discounts and rebates is $79.99. Crab that one if you can.
