i got 2 tickets the other day.

i was driving down a main street with my steore cranked and my screen flipped out (no movies playing, just the screen is out).

So i passed a cop who was pulling someone over, i was doin about 70km/hr as i went by him. I kept goin and maybe 3-4 traffic lights later there was another cop sitting on the side of the street already waiting for me. He pulled me over and told me i passed his buddy down the street bla bla bla and his buddy dispatched him to wait for me and pull me over. (I wonder where my tax money goes more and more each time. Toronto cops got nothing better to do than play radio tags with each other)

My guess is the cop that pulled me over heard me comming from far far away. The first thing he said when he approached me was "Do you know how loud your bass is?" In reply i said "Thank You".

He asked me to turn my screen on b/c his buddy told him i was watching a movie. i turned it on and obvously there was no movie, just a still image. At this point he went back to his car and waited for his buddy (whom i passed) to come. After his buddy cop arrived they both came to my car and the guy that pulled over gave me 2 tickets...Unneccessary Noise and Operating TV in driver's view. The guy that i passed started talking to me and saying that it's not legal to drive and watch a movie. I told him that when i passed him i was not watching anything at all, it was just a still screen with track number/name. He said i was lying that he saw "moving waves" on my screen when i passed him (how he got that when i passed him doin 70 is way beyond me).

I filed both tickets for a court date. I will probably plead guilty to the noise ticket but this tv ticket is total BS. First of all the cop who said he saw 'waves' just made that up. Secondly, the ticket was given to me and signed by the other cop who never actually saw me operating the screen while driving.

And also they lost my license in the process.

Now, what should I do when i go to court??

if there was no dvd in the player when you were pulled over then there is no way for them to prove that you were watching a movie. i would also point out that the player will not work unless the e brake is on. hook it up that way for your court date. the proof will be in your car...take them out to it and show them it won't work without the brake.

Hook up the park brake wire properly regardless of whether you are going to court or not. Excessive noise = guilty. Watching tv while moving = not guilty in this case as at 70km/h it is a snapshot in time for him to see your dash. Now out here we don't have traffic lights with 70km/h zones, sure you weren't speeding as well in a 50km/h zone? They can come after you for this as well, even after the fact.

it was a 60 zone, i'd rather go down for 10 over and a 30 dollar fine then a $110 fine for the tv.

the thing about the ebrake is that its an alpine unit, it doesnt only need the negative, its an whole sequence that involves pushing brake pedal as well as ebrake if properly hooked up. I dont know why they make it like this, its alot easier to bypass it then to actually do the proper sequence.

In response to your tax dollars comment. Would you like it if only one cop was around and someone got shot down the road or someone was doing something else highly illegal and there wasn't another cop on duty ahead to catch the guy He's doing his job. They're paid to protect people in every aspect. Some are @ssholes yes but how are you certain that the guy that pulled you over wasn't in his area of patrol And the guy who you passed was out of his area when he had caught someone for speeding or w/e. Don't jump to conclusions and critize a cop for doing their job for one day it'll be your @ss he's saving.

As for the tickets the first one GUILTY the 2nd one with the tv yes thats ridiculous I'm not sure what you drive so that also could be clear that you can't see the screen unless you're in window view and especially not at 70km/h. Take it to court fight that one.

Prolifik 08-08-2005 11:21 AM

have you noticed how you say if someone got shot?? what is a cop going to do after someone is already shot? in that case u need a paramedic, not a cop.......but maybe in quinte a cop is a paramedic and a firefighter at the same time and he's also your local mail man.

this is exactly why cops are there AFTER shots are fired......they are too busy playing radio tag and pulling over ppl with stereos and clear tail lights instead of preventing shootings and looking for guns.

1. Well they may want to attend a shooting so that they can find the shooter and prevent another later but hey that's just my opinion.

2. Blasting your music down main streets is annoying to everyone around you.

3. Plese do not weaken the gene pool any more by having kids.

MR2NR 08-08-2005 12:40 PM

Let's see here. You broke the law and gave the officer the reason to pull you over. I see no problem with that at all. If it was me and I had the inside knowledge that a forum like this shows, a VI would follow suit as well. An officer can take his investigation as far as he / she needs. To me it sounds like you got off easy and are now trying to push your luck.

Prove your case and go forward from there.

Prolifik 08-08-2005 12:50 PM

Yes Hardwokr u nailed it buddy!!!!! Too bad they werent attending a shooting b/c they were pre occupied giving me a ticket for something i absolutely did not do. I am more than sure that TWO COPS and TWO VEHICLE could not possibly be put to a better use than giving me a ticket for 'moving waves'!! I see someone already poluted the gene pool by having you.

i am trying to push my luck by attempting to fight a ticket which was given to me on no basis?? b/c a cop saw 'moving waves' when infact there was nothing moving? well then i guess our court and justice system was build so that innocent people charged with a crime could 'push their luck'.
yah i'd say i got off easy getting one more ticket than there should have been and my license being lost by the cops. yep, i got off easy!!! i should have been shot!!

i already said im pleading guilty to the noise ticket. dont tell me about blasting my music down the main street b/c everyone with a stereo does it...or should i be blasting it in a residential area is that where u do it?

if u got nothing productive or usefull to say as to what should i do/say when i go to court then pls dont post, simple as that.

Loud music your fault for sure. But, I'd fight the TV one for sure.
