need some money order advice

hey guys
whats a normal time period that someone should wait for a money order to clear before sending out an item?
i sent a canadapost money orer from the post office to the states, but the guy said he was gonna wait a few weeks to 100% make sure it clears
i thinks its a little overboard since i assured him the money order is basically like cash and i made sure it was cashable in the U.S
i suppose there are is a lot of fraud out there so he is cautious.

anyway, just wanna get some input

thx

Make sure it clears? To my knowledge, he takes it to a bank or PO and cashes it right there. Its not a cheque.

Only issue i see is cashing a canadian MO in the US regardless of wether its in US funds. When i send a MO to the US, its an international MO in US funds from the bank.

I agree with SCotia, My money orders to the states are always in US funds, in a International money order!! I remember a few years ago, you were able to get a confirmation, but I haven't sent a MO in god knows how long now!!

oh, yeah, its in U.S funds and is internatioanal
i think the guy is just being OVERLY cautious as i have sent money orders to 2 other people with no problems at all. he has lots of feedback, so im sure its not anything to worry about

he deposited it into his account so i think hes worried that it will act like a check and possible reverse or whatever. but i told him its fine

Did you buy something off of ebay?
I've been sent money orders for items i've sold on ebay, and once you get it, you can take the funds immediately.

Cool,, I have no problem with cautious... however as other said, when it is cashed its cashed. There is no waiting. He get the money that instant. Id clear that up with him before i waited *X* time for my product.

yes, i know you get the funds that instant, but as he has stated, even fake checks/money orders can cash instantly, but come back as fraudulant a week or 2 later. i think thats what he;s worried about

however, in my case, its a legit money order

i hate scammers!!!

The best money orders I have found come from the Money Mart. Seeing that Money Mart operates in both Canada and the U.S., I wouldn't see a problem with clearing their money orders within a shorter period of time.

Get Paypal. And only deal with Paypal users.

You sent a Money Order,, basically you sent cash.

If you don't get your product and the dude takes the cash, your out.

If you pay by Paypal, and you don't get your product, you can get your

money back.

Plus, a money order is like $1.00 each time. Paypal is like $0.35 over $200.00

and it's free.
