Need some opinions ...

So I'm upgrading and getting rid of my desktop pc pretty much. Want a laptop so I can take it with me, especially on photography shoots. I can't quite seem to wrap my head around which one I really want, so if it were you which would you choose and why ?

Between these 2, which one would YOU choose and why ?

Choice # 1
MSI GT735 $884

Choice # 2
ASUS K70I0-A1 $934 (Might be getting a better price on this one as well)

MSI = 512mb video card, BLU RAY DISC/DVD Burner, 320gb HD, 2GB of ram (expandable to 4), AMD Turion X2 Ultra 2.20 Ghz Processor.

Asus = 1gb video card, NO bluray, 250gb HD, 4gb of ram, Intel core duo 2.0ghz processor...

So far the ASUS is winning my vote as it comes with a 1gb video card and 4gb of ram where as the MSI only comes with a 512mb video card and 2gb of ram ...
And I hate red... lol If it was green or blue I would'a said fawk it hands down MSI lol
The MSI also comse with 4.1 sound (ya a subwoofer in a laptop lol).
The only thing that really has my vote with the MSI is the bluray. But If I truly want later down the road I can upgrade to bluray for $250ish.

Which would you buy and why .... ?

Well for photography you will need the one with a better screen (no backlight leakage) and lots of ram (min 4gb). You'll also need a 64bit OS if you want to take advantage of the 4gb+ ram since in 32bit you can only address a max of 4gb(4gb ram + 1 gb video card = the OS can only use 3gb ram even if you have 4gb).

The real bottleneck on laptop these days it's the hard drive (I/O), 5400 rpm drive should be illegal... Get a large 7200 drive or even better a SSD, but be careful there's a lot of cheap MLC SSD that will be slower than a 5400 drive.

Back to your question, I'll take the ASUS (1gb graphics, 4gb ram, Intel Core2) and install a 64bit OS (in my case Ubuntu) like Windows 7 RC and upgrade the HDD to a 128gb or 256gb SSD (like the OCZ Vertex) and buy an empty usb external case for the orginal HDD (for backups).

Good idea and good explanation :) I'm leanin towards the windows 7 upgrade when its available but wont be til at least October according to Microsoft. The 64 bit upgrade will be a must tho hahaha no brainer :D I wasn't aware of the HD 5400rpm thing tho so Ill def look into that thanks for pointing that out :)

Pretty much any computer you buy with 4gb of ram already comes with a 64bit os, keeping in mind you can easily and cheaply upgrade ram (have already done it twice in the laptop I am writing on) I agree with asus, I have found that amd processors still run hot compared to intel and I am quite happy with the same on in this laptop.

I would definately go with the asus as it seems to have considerably more power behind it, unless the bluray is a must-have for you.
