Well, what kind of shows? Pretty Car shows or Car audio competitions?

If its for show looks, then do almost whatever you heart desires in my opinion, sealed subs is always easy, 5.1 surround is cool , there really is no best, just the owners vision and how it looks.

Want to win audio comps?
Ohh my...
go to termlab.com and read the rules, so you will know what gear you can run in what class..
look up DBdrag and Bassrace
Read back threads here on CCA

Then clean your reading glasses and read till you're numb , and don't be afraid to ask detailed questions when the reading becomes confusing

I'm looking to build the car for "pretty" carshows but I still want the system to pound. I have the setup in mind but would like to know the best amp/sub combo. I'm running a freeway 7" indash dvd player

The BEST would cost ALOT!!! but one mans "best" may not be anothers.

You should try to come up with a budget for your gear, its much easier to choose what to do now and what to wait for if you have a budget.

Most show cars I see run sealed subs, ported boxes can take up alot of room and they are much harder to make "pretty" than a simple fiberglass sealed box.

Start by looking up " the big 3 "- enlarging your elec. system wires
You have a HU, so next would be High/mids(you can run them of your HU)
Then an amp and sub/box(also wires etc)
That would be a good starting list ...
Have fun man..

0 gauge is the usual size for running from the front battery to the back, battery to ground should be the same...0awg...and engine to chassis ground also 0 awg.. The powerwire then usually runs to a distribution block , from there, to your gear. I try to use the largest wire size my gear can handle, that will be dictated by the size of the inputs.

Not a real fan of Sony either.

Re audio makes some good amps/subs for the money
Soundstream also makes some good stuff for the price

Those are the two brands I would look at first. You could probably get a couple subs and 1500w class D for around $500 with either brand.

Online, check out Audiosavings.com - Sonicelectronix.com - Ebay...etc
Don't rush your buys, or you may end up like some of us... wanting to upgrade the gear you just bought for something else..
