OH i love cash conveters
so there is a cash conveters new my new place so i have been in there a few times now and mostly junk in the car audio area... mostly old looking like its been in a war zone all busted up scractch dented amps are missing the end caps and almost all of the termial screws are missing rusted to crap and are very very over priced..BUT there was a newer alpine type R 15" in the box looking like new the odd scratch on the magnet but notting that would be seen so i am thinking ok they are gonna want my left arm and right nut for this seeing the crappy is over priced so i look at the sticker and 75$ is on the sticker so i am thinking ok this must be the wrong sticker so i read it and it says alpine R 15" sub 75.00$ so i grab it off the shelf... still looking in the store i see a Bazooka amp looks newer i look at it and see its a mono block looks in super shape i look at the price 65.00 so get them to show me everthing working and everything does so i am thinking ok well lets see if i can get greedy and get the tax included in the price so i talk to the guy and first he says ok he will save me on tax on both the sub and amp then i himmmmmmm and hodddddd and put the stuff down and talk to the door to leave and he comes over to me and says that he will include both IF i pay with cash and he said its a slow day cus of the snow so i jump all over it... so for the total price of 140.00 i got the type R 15 and the amp... like they had a jensen amp the ones from walmart for 125 and it was soo beat up and missing screws i feel like i was blessed by the car audio gods today....

haha, sounds like my cashconverters. there selling thump amps for $80. also have speakers that have no cones. some with out tweeters and the usual warzone chit. but I have found some good deals. I got a JL8W0 in a box for $9. also got a 12" type R for $65. an image dynamics IDQ12 for 12 bucks. so yes, you can find good deals. but you have to know what to look for and go in there frequently. most the time I just go in there to get a couple kicks out of the idiots working there.
|
I just got a pair of Kicker C8a's for 18 bucks yesterday, to add to my past cash converters finds of a Zapco Z50s2 and z50s4 for 20 each tax in at two different stores, got a Punch 60 for 30 bucks, mint in box DEQ-230 for 110, JBL GTi 18 for about 120, etc, etc.
I've gotten some crazy deals in there, but you do have to go a lot and know what to look for. Personally I wonder who buys the other . They had a MTX 4500 10" for 130, no box  |
Oh that store is a joke man,I bought 6 Lightning Audio Strike subs at A&B Sound for $15 each new I sold to Cash Converters for $50 each and they sold them for $100.
But then Im in there one day and see a DD9515 for $175cnd and I tipped RobVO off about it and he bought it then I was in there last spring and seen a Pheonix Gold Outlaw look at flip it over and see the price tag $1750.00 HAHAHAHA eat my ass, look again SWEET HOLY S**T $175.00!! I was on that like Opera on a baked ham. |
wheres this cash converters???
I only know of Oshawa and ajax or is that pickering |
The CC's and Buster's in my area seem to know their , everything's pretty much the highside of the price range you'd expect it to be in, always.
|
ok
yea well we need one of them in Nova Scotia !!!! you wouldn't think of buyin car audio form our pawn shops! its all been through the war and there isnt even a deal to be had goin in every day of every year ...its sadddd:( lol
|
lol... i have a funny story about CC... about 7 years ago before i knew anything about car audio (i still know just the basic's) a friend of mine told me to go there and check out the car audio.. at the time i was looking for a cheap sub and amp... and he told me he found a great deal on some old school Autotec? amps or somthing..
anyway... i went there and didnt see anything i liked.. (mind you i didnt know what i was looking at) i made a mental note of what they had to tell him when i got back... so im telling him and i mention this really old looking deck that was in great shape but looked old fashion.. he was like "wtf? oldfashion?" im like "yeah it looked like 70's... mcyntire or somthing..." he then freaks out and yells "mcintosh!!?" so now we are racing back there and sure enough... it was a mcintosh deck... only about 3 years old (at the time) i didnt need a deck at the time so my buddy grabbed it... price? 45$ :smilie_da |
LOL --- whenever someone tried to trade in a broken amp or sub I would send them to Cash Converters and they would always buy it. Make sure you test something before you take it and find out if you get warranty because there is a good chance it was previously broken....

Damn.. that's just depressing... for me.. :( |
The cash converters in Peterborough was :lame:
they sold NIB pyramid, sheerwood, and soundstorm equipment at retarded high prices.... everything else was either garbage or was so overpriced you would be much further ahead going to ebay or looking for used gear on a site like this.... Lets see, I think I remember a used kove armageden 12" sub going for a steal of only $650+ tax and the best was a old skool RF 18" from the mid 90s for only $899... LMAO ! (not to mention the beat to hell amplifers they always had) oh yea a pair of used thump! 10s in a prefab box for $220 also made me laugh... and then there was a $500 mens diamond ring I brought in expecting to get at least $75 for, and they offered me $20.... :hitit: :sold: :urat00l: :rippedhan Apparently they closed sometime last summer  |

I also got 2 kove armageddon 15's and a MTX 2300X for 300 recently, split them up within a few days and made a hundred bucks. I still have the horrible ghetto box they came in, if I can get some super cheap 15's I'll take it back and probably get 100 bucks lol. |
lol, I used to work at the Buster's at 410 & Queen. They get some nice pieces in, but unfortunately they do tend to price them on the high side.
although, one time I managed to snag a Zapco AG150 and AG350 for $50, tax in. at the Cash Converters down the street. Its hit and miss with that location, sometimes you find something at stupid low prices and other times its off the wall |

At that c.c i did get a pair of fosgate 6x9s in wedge boxes for 25 bucks, mint and worked perfect? Trying to figure these places out will make ones brain smoke........ |
The prices are simple... Some (stupid) employees think that anything designed to work in a car must be worth some money, there's the high cost items.
Then some people don't ask for much thinking it'll be easier to get out later, then the drugs take hold. Hello deals. |
If I worked the buy counter in one of those places, I would be broke, but have a massive stash of gear. The store would have nothing lol.
Yeah that Rodek is still there..... I eyeballed that US Amps USA-25 they have on their wall, but it's too steep @ $150. I ended up getting a a/d/s PS5 privately for $80 for my tweets, and it does a great job. |
I've found anything well known is fairly expensive, when you get the deals is on stuff that's high end/obscure and the average person/employee doesn't know what it is.

Every store seems to specialize....I have been in most of the ones around the GTA at 1 time or another, and while one may have more home and car electronics, the one down the QEW has more tools and jewelry.....:dunno: It means the old saying about the "buyer beware" is alive and well, but if you know what you're looking at and for you can score a sweet deal......:smilie_da |
wish we had one around here
|
My buddy(riddle_rob) just picked up some wicked audiobahns in a wicked 4th order bandpass box the other day for like $140 @ a cash converters!! Another one in brantford had an Earthquake D2 with end caps for sale $400..Can get some wicked deals in some stores!!

|
Yeah I worked for them years ago in Ottawa (don't think they have anymore here) and never had money left after buying all the good stuff that came through there lol. At first they were really good but they ended up selling stuff for too much $$ and most of it was crap to begin with.
