Online PS2 Gaming...
Just curious how many people are online with their PS2's ....or Xbox's for that matter.
Haven't really been into gaming for a couple years but thinking bout getting online with my PS2 and getting that Socom 2 game.

I got the first SOCOM the day it was released. And got online right away. It was probably one of the most fun games I have ever played. Until.... everyone in the world hit the bandwagon and bought it, and totally overcrowded the servers. Then there was a ton of lag, and way too many people. Then cheating was introduced, as always is the case in online gaming. But up until that point that game was awesome and I played it like 6 hours a day. I had the public beta version of SOCOM 2 and played that a bit. I never bothered to buy it though. I have heard that cheating still runs wild and lag can be a problem. The first game was awesome though for about the first six months that it was out!
^^^^^Because theres something to be said for being able to sit on your couch with a ps2 controller and play games on yer TV opposed to sitting in front of a monitor and playing games sitting in a chair on your keyboard.
I like the sports games online.
Its great fun setting up a league, etc, with Madden Football, NHL, NBA Live, etc...
There is a little bit of lag, but you get used to it in a few minutes, its essentially like a split second delay.
The only caveat is playing against people that play strictly for their 'rankings', they tend to get ahead and try to kill the clock, which is a sucky move. I try to set up mini-leagues with friends, etc, and thaqt way no one takes it too serious, and everyone gets bragging rights.

PS2 has really messed up with their attempts to make PC and PS2 games compatible online, games like Need For Speed: Underground suffered greatly because of this. PC players started getting hacks/trainers that let them cheat online, and the PS2 players had a hard time keeping up. I've seen another PS2 game recently that had this "feature" as well. the biggest problem is taht to make it PS2 compatible, the PC version has to suffer, and to be PC compatible, the PS2 version loses the ability to really take advantage of the hardware.
