- Who own's it now? (Is it Pengrowth and if so what kind of company are they?)

- Who owned it originally and what was it originally called?

Anyone? I really need to know...

One of my Calgarian friends seems to think that Air Canada owns them but i disagree considering Air Canada own's the Air Canada Centre...

*edit*
Yes I tried searching google, decided to see if anyone in the west know's the answer since I couldn't come up with one.

It was originally called just the Saddledome, it's owned by Pengrowth an energy company.

Originally it was owned by a group of 10 investors but I'm not positive, it's been awhile.

I thought the city owned it. I sure love seeing buildings made with public funds with corporation names on them. "Rexall place" Telus Field"

Blinddemonz Nov 30, 2004 10:11 AM

yeah at one point I was close to saying Telus owned it with all the 'telus confrence' rooms they have but I was told the name of the company is in it, and I just wasn't sure what Pengrowth was.

I also read somewhere that it was owned by the 10 investors, wasn't sure if that meant exactly that which is why I choose to ask you westerners.

At some point it was named the Olympic Saddledome though, I did find that out after I had posted this. Still wanted the other answers however. But thank you guys

In TO, its Air Canada center, due to the fact they bought the rights to the name of the building.

good example, Edm Rexall Place used to be called Skyreach Center....all about who wants to pay the bucks to have their name on a building.

So are we going to have a Roger's Skydome in TO?...I believe they just bought it...

Yep, count on it!

Actually, it was city owned, when first built in 1977(or so), then bought by a group of investors, then sold to Air Canada, then sold to Pengrowth, which is still the owner today. It doesn't really matter who owns it, it financially isn't a cash cow, all the reason for buying it really is, is just for advertising. Its uses are already pre-established before the City ever sold it intitally. Im from Calgary, thats how I know, actually my Uncle was the superintentent of its construction.

So at some point Air Canada DID own the Saddledome? Interesting.

actually before Rexall place and Skyreach center, it was Northlands Coliseum. ahhhh, the good old days!! OILERS RULE!
DAMN NHL, none of the buildings have any character anymore! they cant even leave the original names alone!
