putting pc in the DMZ on a router questions
 

Hey guys....

for the life of me I cannot get my companies VPN to work though my router (dlink di524). It'll almost connect but something is blocking it. I've messed around with various ideas from dlink and used our network dudes info on what needs to be open, but no luck. So it's a pain, and sadly, I can't get much help from our network guy that runs it.

So anyways, I was thinkin I could put my PC's IP in the DMZ on the router and that should give me access to everything and everything to me (including the VPN). Trouble is, I still can't access the VPN when this is done. Why is that? Am i missing something here???

Just covert your PC's IP into the new DRZ format. When my PC's DMZ IP/1R went, I just uploaded the latest version into the QSC module on the mainframe. Good as new, you'll see.

I like to pretend i'm a bit technical, but can honestly say I have no idea what you just said. can you explain in english?

alright Nat routers Most of them that i know dont support True VPNing. Nor does yours router. dlink di524 is just a home base router that allowed VPN Passthrough. Meaning to talk to some other VPN if your trying to figure it out Good luck DMZ is just to open all the ports pretty much but you need a VPN server and correctly configured. there alot of online tutorials...

Just to make sure we're on the same page. We're both talking about going from my home PC to a previously setup VPN that work has. Not the other way around, right?

if your computer is on the dmz there should be no issues.. bypass the router and go directly to the modem and see if that helps.. i think it's another issue than the router..

dmz does/will not guarantee it will work. The vpn passthrough that twisted mentioned can be the issue. Some routers (very very loose term btw cause its not really a router) dont do vpn well or at all. However i think most do now a day.

I would make sure you can connect with no router first as chrisb mentioned.

At my work we give employees a router that has a tiny vpn server built in. Not passthrough. Maybe the latest firmware for your unit will help? Ill admit i never went to the site to see its specs or revisions.

btw.. i've used vpn on a dlink 514 (which is the same as a 524 but the 524 is a tad better quality)
