Pickerel rigs, and minnows or worms(salted minnows work best). Use heavy duty pickerel rigs(they have body armor, and are extremely sharp, especially the young ones), and make sure you have plenty of line on your reel(atleast 20lb test), and a salmon rod helps. I battled a 40-50 pounder for an hour the other day with just a Berkley cherrywood, and 12lb test(didn't have my gear). I ran out of line, and tried to chase it down the river, but the only way i would have landed um, is if i would have stapped on a lifejacket, and ski behind him to MedicineHat. A huge sturgeon was reported from the Fraser River in British Columbia some 50 years ago. It measured almost 20 feet in length, was nearly a century old and strained the scales to 1,832 pounds. Recent reports mention 500- to 800-pound fish from the Lillooet area of the Fraser River.
