Rookie in audio and looking foward to learn

Hello everyone , After passing to my local and trusted repair shop for my old alpine radio and a small 50$ bill to fix it last week, I ended up trading my now fixed unit for a new one and little did I know I am now the new owner of a bunch of audio gear for my daily driver car and it's getting out of control ! Got new components for my front doors last week, then scored some rear components on eBay for the rear ones and now just secured a deal on an amp for them . I already got a sub lined up in my to buy list and hopefully by the time Christmas is here I'll get the amp to drive it . All of this because of a 50$ repair .... So here I am looking to learn some more about audio set-up because I want this one to sound great , I commute 2 hours everyday for work and I think I deserve a little treat . I am hoping to find here all the info I need to build and complete my new audio system .

I am much like you. My old civic cd player gave up back in Feb. March I bought a nice Pioneer HU with USB. Never had that before. Bought it for the cd player since I played cd's most of the time. Well, since the usb thing was there, I started using it. Very rarely do I use cd's now. But for the rest of the story. All stock gear accept for the HU which was great with the stock speakers. Found some old speakers from 15 years ago that I didn't realize I had. Decided to install them and find out how they sound with this new HU. Sounded pretty good. So I bought a used 4ch amp for these speakers. Sounded pretty good! Fried the amp trying things that ough not be done. Bought a brand new JL audio amp. Holy WOW! Added a sub and it sounded pretty darn good. Replaced the 15 year old speakers with new ones found on eBay, one pair at a time and it sounds even better. Added another amp just for the sub and purchased a better amp for the mids and highs. Sounds nice. Decided to put speakers down in the kick panels. Amazing sound quality from there. From march til now there is all new equipment with sound deadening and upgrade wiring to power it all. Also did some body work on the old girl to get rid of some rust showing.

I actually wash my car now. lol! The thing is I'm not done. Still going to add to the system and get even better sound quality. It doesn't have to be ear bleeding loud. But I want it to near extacy when listening at moderate levels. Keep me posted on where you're at with your system 6 months from now.

Wow ! Like you said , our stories are pretty similar . Right now all I got in my car is my new Alpine head unit with USB cable to hook-up my iPod with all the original speakers still in . Next week I will get my new 4 channel amp for my components and just this morning I gave a deposit on a 12 inch sub . I'm pretty confident that in my Christmas vacation I'll have gathered all the dynamat, wires and build my custom sub enclosure and bought the missing amp for my sub. Then it will be the joy to strip the car and install everything . Soon all these parts in my closet will be worth more then my car ! Nice to see I'm not the only one that got hooked this way. I also found the info about the big 3 , guess this is something not to overlook . pleasure to meet you !
