I saw on the news this morning that CHUM radio has applied to the gov't for a licence to run a subscription sattelite radio service in Canada.

Since we were discussing DAB/SIRIUS/XM down below, I figured this might interest people.

Looks like something along the lines of XM-CANADA and/or SIRIUS-CANADA are going to be up and running sooner rather than later...

Nice.. I have the Sirius Tuner on my deck.

Only sad thing is it will be governed br CRTC which means 80 percent of channels being offered will have to be Canadian.. All of those Canadian Stations have to play a Minimum of 75% Canadian content..

Im gonna have to use my cousins California address and subscribe from there.

ppl listent to that radio station?

well,
I think CHUM is an umbrella corporation. Meaning that while 'CHUM FM' may suck, they may also own '102.1 the edge' or 'Q107' for example (I know, they dont, but theoretically the same idea).

Basically, if CHUM starts 12 sattelite subscriber stations, the other radio conglomerates, like Rogers communications, will compete, and the market will expand to an extent, I figure.

I only hope my deck on the way has xm capabilities.

Chum owns Muchmusic and all it's spin off channels as well. Moses is quite the empire builder.
