Well I was getting ready to buy a new system (cause i've been pounding mine for about 4 yrs ish and it just sounds like crap.) Now i'm not upgrading this year. really good reason though. i took the money i was going to spend on a stereo system for my car, and spent it on a 1964 ford thunderbird 2 door hardtop !!! 2600 canadian... has less than 50000 original miles on the original engine. no cancer. 390 with 300 hp. chrome everything! interior needs a bit of work, cause the door seals where off the car this past winter. so there is about $1000 worth of interior work. but i'm so happy.. the engine is quieter than the engine in my 2002 kia rio. no valve tick or anything... doesn't burn any oil... i think i got a steal

wow, that's like takin' candy from a baby. awsome price that's a great investment, stereo just depreciates, that car will gain quite a bit of value.

mmartin1872 03-23-2004 11:37 AM

that was my thoughts... plus right now i drive a kia... and i love cars. so you put the two together and you know i was looking for something else. when i went to visit my dad and his friend, i was walking up the backyard and saw the car sitting there... i asked my dads friend "what are you doing with a car like that" (he's not into cars at all) he said I'm helping my buddy sell it. i said how much. "last year he turned down 6,000, this year he's hard up for cash. has a buyer lined up for 2600." i said how bout i get it for that price... he said.... "ok!" i was so shocked i just about fell to the ground.. cut him a cheque. and then had to go to work :( pick it up on saturday. got the signed papers sitting at home. cant wait to cruise... in the famous words of ren and stimpy... "happy happy joy joy"

nice, what did you do? beat the old guy into submission?

mmartin1872 03-23-2004 03:25 PM

nope nothing like that... i was just at the right place at the right time. if i didn't see the car then, it would of been sold the next day and i wouldn't of even known about it. i kind of feel like an ass for crushing someone elses dreams of owning a nice old car... but then i think... why should he get such a good deal.. lol

Bigmike216 03-23-2004 05:50 PM

Hauls ass maybe?

Very clean car. Kudos for taking care of it.

mmartin1872 03-27-2004 02:07 PM

let me rephrase that... hauls ass compared to my pos kia rio.. and that was without even opening up the 4 barrels on the drive.. mind you a geo metro probably hauls ass compared to my rio. lol

But how does it stack up against the mighty Pontiac Firefly? Or the balls out Turbo Firefly!

mmartin1872 03-27-2004 02:30 PM

i think it would bury them... this car using only 1/2 the pedal would be up to the speed limit in seconds... i mean it just flew. 300 hp thats like 5 times the amount my kia has at the tires. ... my kia on the other hand... as long as i had a rolling start on the firefly and he didn't know i was racing him... would leave him in its dust lol.

I like old cars too. Very cool to hear about your experience.

My father in law has 4 toy cars. '65 Mustang convertable, '67 Gallaxy 500 convertable, '49 Ford coupe, and a pre 1950 Chev hot rod with a corvette engine. I'd say you got yourself a good investment there.

That sled is definitely worth putting the car audio plans on hold. Very nice indeed. Restore it, drive it for a year or so and then sell it for some good money.

Buffdaddy 03-28-2004 11:36 AM

Why not just drop your system right into it?

mmartin1872 03-28-2004 11:54 AM

cause i blew the money that i had saved up for the system on the car...now my bank account is starting at 0 again. so i have to save for another month or two again

Tha-Game 03-28-2004 12:52 PM

nice car, but lay off the rio man i drive an RXV, aint nothing wrong with that car at all:P i have taken my buddy in his pickup with a 350 up to 80 before the HP difference killed me lol AND it will beat or at least keep up with most civics with easy... hey the way i see it, any car thatll do 185km with the engine displacement of a double gulp at sev, is an ok car, not to mention ur new toy will probly cost u triple in gas ;) oh them prices be a risin....

good find tho, i was at an auction couple weeks ago saw a sweet old car, suicide doors, 8track player the works... interior needed some work... i didnt stick around to see what it went for.. i TOTALLY woulda pick that up if i had the cash

mmartin1872 03-28-2004 01:05 PM

i'd lay off the rio but mine really is a lemon.. soo many problems with it. within the first 20000km i had a wheel bearing go. fuel pump went, stock tint started chipping off the back window. within the first 40 i was replacing suspension bushings. 60 i had to replace my rotors, and calipers (calipers where seized causing my rotors to warp). car started stalling instantly after startup. had some sort of computer problem.. its an automatic (yes i know this isn't the cars fault but i prefer standard and the standards have a little less problems in terms of the transmissions.) my wheelnut that holds the cv joint in place undid itself while i was driving and the cv joint was just about totally out of the rotor when i finallyh pulled over and took off the tire to see what the problem was (which was about 20 minutes after the screeching noise happened). my exhaust has a rattle in it from something. probably a rusted heat sheild. and daytime running light unit had to be replaced because it was faulty... this has been the most expensive cheap car i've ever owned.. and all of the kms on my car are highway driven.. i've done all the recommended maintenance on time. and as of earlier this week my alternator is making an awful clicking sound, so i think its going to kick the bucket soon. anyways sorrry bout the rant peace.

Tha-Game 03-28-2004 07:25 PM

ok well that being sad i now understand and forgive the hatred lol no worries, id be pissed if my car had all those problems, ive only had to replace the crap factory tires, and adjust the clutch cable with mine..... (and 8600$ in accident repairs..... damn shiznit....)
