The only thing this player doesn't do is movies that use QPel or GMC (Quarter Pixel and Global Motion Compensation) but none of the movies released in the scene use this often.

You can put like 7 movies on a DVD-R and pop it in. The menu comes up and you browse the files. Because of the TVs lower resolution and 4x upsampling it is very hard to discern a properly encoded XviD or DivX from a DVD. It also can use SRT, SUB format subtitles that you sometimes get with DivX rips.

I put like 40 rap albums on separate folders and browse each folder and it will play the songs on each folder. So you can use this as an MP3 jukebox.

The player is also firmware upgradeable.

If you're like me and you have over 1000+ DivX/XviD movies then this player is for you.

For $100CAD this thing is a steal of a deal.

Ok, the issue with the VERY high bitrate DivX/XviDs is that they will play choppy on scenes with high motion. The reason for that is that the player cannot read the data fast enough on a CD.

However if you put the movie on a DVD (which will fit like 6-7 700MB files) then it will play flawlessly.

AC3 decoding isn't a problem either... if you have only 2 speakers it will decode into a stereo source.

Im gonna go get one of these soon... Mr roommate hates when i run the s-video cable from the computer across the floor to the tv just to watch a divx movie..

AH man!!! I wish you would have check the Best Buy flyer I just bought the same one tonight for $79.99 and man they are flying out the door. I had the sales guy bending over backwards to find me one it seems the store manager had stashed 15 of the suckers.. Great player have fun I know I will....

I am thinking about getting a DVD player. Would this be a good choice? I want to spend up to about $150 including tax. Would this one be good enough for just watching movies? What about adding to a home theater system down the road? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Man these things are so sheap now it's ridiculous.
I bought my Toshiba dvd player say around what, 4 eyars ago or something? Cost me over $300! BUTTT thing still works as good as ever.

My parents buy a new DVD player every year in hopes it will improve, but every year they take the new one back and stick with their 5-year-old Toshiba ... ;)

I'm quite pleased with my LG DV-7732NSC. Been running it for over a year now, no issues ... It came with a S-video cable and A&B Sound threw in a free optical audio cable [img]smile.gif[/img] Great deal, IMO, for $160 a year ago, now it's like $80 ...

FYI, who cares about DVD-R/DVD+R support, just take a DVD+R and burn it as a DVD-ROM and it will play on any DVD player on the market, including my parents' 5-year-old Toshiba that doesn't even have CD-R support, let alone DVD-R or DVD+R support ;)

Toshiba rules ... quiet and they change scenes quickly. Large buffers for almost zero skipping too.

But, these $50-$100 players look mighty tempting, I remember Apex that everyone wanted because it played 'everything'.
