Stand alone graphics cards are definately noticably better than integrated ones. It takes some of the strain off the processor. I dont think that a 128mb one will last you for 3 years. What I would do is take the cheaper integrated one (it'll still play all of todays games, and use the $300.00 in a year or two to upgrade to a better graphics card when the prices on the 512mb ones come down. Thats a pretty pricey $300 upgrade when you can buy a radon 9550 256mb card for easily under $90.

^^^Nothing wrong with Proprietary systems like hp,dell those are the only "factory" systems I would buy. There just as easily upgradable as the next clone system.. I have a Dell 8300 running 9800 pro and runs great if not better then a buddies P4 2.8ghz and it's a clone...Only thing if you buy name brand just wipe out the software and install your own versions... My Dell one actually came with next to no junk installed...Hp on the other hand is different.

some of the proprietary hardware is made so thats all you can use

seen it happen to people they wern't to happy
like power supplys for over $200

^^yeah true on that part my dell is "dell" desisng power supply that they say can't be upgraded unless u use a 'dell" powrs supply bought found a few... I guess the only thing u can't really do is upgrade the PSU and cases on dells... Hp however I think uses a normal case/supply etc etc.. Needless to say to be back on topic...I'd persoanlly go with a graphics card instead on on board... my 9800pro still runs everything with no issue and it's only 128 ram...

ATI All in Wonder Radeon... great card, I have a gen1 version, and it's more than I could have asked for (specially since it was free). I still use it for TV watching and video capture.

I'm running an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 card Dukk and it works great. I got it when it was 2nd on the market for the best.

Personally 256 is the way to go because in less than a year they always come out with something better. At the time my dad built his pc with the best of everything and a week later they came out with something better. So its very hard to stay the best but to have something that will last and hold up with the things you would like to do is definately a good idea.

That thing is ancient... there are like 20 models up from the 5600 that outperform it 3 fold. The current front runners are the 6800 based cards or the x850s running on the PCI-E bus.

Cuz I don't think you did.

And I do believe I never once said that it was the best now. I said it was what I am running, and I like it just fine. It came free I'm certainly not going to complain.
