There should be no ban. Punish the retards that own the dog.

That's a loaded question....

everyone knows that the justice system is so messed up with their sentencing that it's not even possible to determine what is 'reasonable' for any crime...

There should be a catch them before this happens policy applicable here. Meaning that all dogs must have a temperment test by a registered agency, next yearly obedience training for both the dog and a responsible pet owner training course for the owner and family. Each year this would need to be done and kept up to date. Part of the obedience training is should also be a scenario where attacks would happen based on case files to see what kind of demeanour the dog shows. Another part should be a socialization course to see if the dog is dog friendly. Is the dog food aggressive? So many questions that the average owner and 99% of the public do not understand.

The more work done with the animals in question will definitely limit the attacks from happening but sadly cannot prevent all of them from happening. This work however could take a nice young dude like the 10mo. old that was written about above and ensure he lives a happy normal life. It will also smarten up all the bad owners at the same time. A much more rigourous adoption and owner process needs to be adopted. Puppymills where temperment is never checked need to be banned and fined heavily if found to be operating. The SPCA needs much bigger TEETH than they currently have in order to make the changes necessary for this top happen. I can go on and on here but let's leave it at this and see what people say.

Haha, actually Dave, The SPCA has special constables that are covered under the Police Services Act. So, yes, dog catchers as cops are already here. I know what you mean though. I can see you hiding you dog already.

He is an amazing dog. 10 months old now, friendly as can be. Listens great, friendly with everyone and other dogs. But he is being put down Monday as one of our neighbours reported him.
Not fair at all to him. You look at him and see a puppy full of life that is going to be killed for no reason. The guy is sitting here with his head on my lap right now, never hurt a person and because his breed has been abused he is going to be killed.
That is truly one of the most aggravating, saddest things I've heard in my life. A bull terrier doesn't HAVE to be mean. You socialize it, treat it right and it doesn't mean it will be aggressive. Unfortunately though, some breeds have instincts that can never be 'taught' out of them.

For myself, I'll stick to breeds that I know are known for being gentle and non-agreesive. That's why I have a lab retriever. We were at the dog park this past weekend and played with an awesome American Staffy (pit bull) and he was great. Loved to be petted and play. There was one dog though he didn't want to leave alone (just follow him around and annoy him lol) and didn't waste anytime baring teeth at that dog. Would come over to me though and lick my face.

The key to pleasing a dog: scratch their lower back. Havent' met a dog yet that doesn't like it.
