Anyone else have this problem?

A frined recently purchased a brand new schukum Toshiba Laptop. This laptop came with Win Xp.

So first thing my friend asks for is to download music. I hit up oldversion.com and grab Kazaa Lite. Install it...and boom computer pooched. I have to go in completly re-install the system using the Toshiba recovery discs. All ok, and fine since he had done nothing on him computer yet so it was ok to start over again.

Fast forward a month to today. He is still itchin for music. So I make up a disc with some programs on it, including Kazza Lite (the same install file that I used to install it on my machine-win98). He installs it, and now his computer is pooched again. He was told by Toshiba Tech support that he needs the win XP disc to fix it...but it was never included with the computer when he bought it.

Now I havn't had a chance to get my hands on the laptop yet..and my buddy isn't the most computer savey (reminds my of zoolander actually).

Any ideas on why this happens?
Is there other people running XP and Kazza?

What to do..oh what to do. Next time a friend gets an new PC I am claiming computer ignorance!

he should have never bought a toshiba, seriousluy biggest waste of money ever. i almost bought one and i am so happy i didnt, my friend bought the m10 i was going to and has had nothing but problems, i bought a compaq x1010 instead and its been awesome, kazza, porn, whatever no crashes haha. umm but other than that try installing the os on it without the recovery cd's try installing with like an xp pro disc (pirated if you have to) and then just install all the driver updates from the toshiba website. that might fix ya up.

Kazaa Lite sux now a days anyway, its all got the anti piracy skipping in it or your downloading viruses

Serves him right. I told him to get it from the computer shop that I deal with (small store, great service). Instead he got it from London Drugs (big chain, poor service). Why...cause it looked nicer!

Now they are giving him the run around!

Personally I don't want to touch this machine ...last thing I want is to be that guy...you know the guy..."but you were the last one to touch my computer, so you must have been the guy who wrecked it..."

Where's the best place to get music from these days?

Toshiba mistake???? Compaq it's the worse PC compagnie, they build ****y computer put tons of useless software and don't even think about service they took 3 month to repair my friend's laptop for their pc you have to disassemble half the computer to change something.

I don't know why you have prob with Kazaa and xp, Kazaa is made for xp, and who talk about win 98? this thing still exist? it's the last year for win xp, next year we will have Longhorn

if you can'T run kazaa you can use eDonkey maybe

</font>
have you used or purchased a compaq latley. they have seriously come a long ways. they really took a huge dive a few years ago and thier desktops are still ****. but the laptops are some of the best bang for you buck out there right now. compared to the toshiba the build quality alone on the compaq just feels way better its sturdy the plastics dont feel cheap whereas on the toshiba they are flimsy and the plastics feel horrid. then from a software standpoint compaq is doing a great job gone are the days of the single recovery cd that fills your hard drive with garbage and crap you dont need. everything comes on its own disc, os install, driver disc, and then all the add ons so you dont have to put all that crap on there. before you jump to conclusions make a little bit more of an educated response there buddy.

We bought 3 laptops at christmas, a Sony Vaio, Toshiba, and a Dell. Of the 3 the Sony is built the best hands down, and had the best software (Dell was good too). The Sony's are a little more expensive, but well worth it in the end. Can't say I'd ever buy another Toshiba, been a nighmare since day one....

I wish I could help you out, but Im not all that computer savy myself...lol
