Infinity 611A connection help
Infinity 611A connection help
I'm just a bit confused here. Current setup (with a different amp) is a pair of 122.7 subs, parallel, bridged, 600rms total, 2 channel amp.
I'm considering a 611A amp and want to get the most out of it (657rms at 2 ohms) but I notice it has 2 sub connections which confuses me a little.
I can get 2 ohms from the subs by setting the switch to 4 ohms and doing parallel, or 1 ohm and doing series, but would that work with this amp? If so, would I have to bridge it, or just use one of the connections on the amp?
Thank you very much
John

Ok, thanks.
Edit: That will give me the full 657rms divided between the two subs correct?
Darn, too bad there isnt a used one in the for sale forums because now I know it will work, I will buy it.
Cheers

I went with this Sony instead:

XMGTR6001
Again though, the amp is wired in parallel internally according to the manual and minimum imp. is 4-ohm subs when using both connectors. Looks like the amp "sees" a 2-ohm load and gives me my full 900 watts rms that way.
The 122.7's are rated for 350 watts rms each, so I guess 900/2 will do the trick

SONY XM-GTR 6001

)mono car amp
Class D
600 watts RMS x 1 @ 4 ohms
900 watts x 1 RMS @ 2 ohms
bass boost (10 dB @ 40 Hz)
Built-In low pass crossover (50-300 HZ)
12 or 24 dB selectable Xover slope
Gold plated termiunals
MOS-FET power supply
CEA-2006 compliant
5-300 HZ frequency response
Fuse Rating: 3 x 30 amps
preamp- and speaker-level inputs
15-7/8"W x 2-1/5"H x 10.8"D
I paid $174.00 before tax at BB. They have an online sale, same as FS. Currently they want $269.00 for the Infinity.
FS was supposed to have 30% off the Infinity and I was waiting all weekend for the website to allow it, but it never showed up.
Obviously I cant purchase both to compare, but I have no reason to doubt you.
Cheers

The infinity is just better. I've heard both amps the same subs, and the infinity makes more power in your car than the sony. basically they(cea 2006) test power at 14.4v and very few cars operate at that voltage. A more realistic voltage is 13.0-13.5. If you check the link above for the sony amp they say it will make 900rms with a current draw of 98amps only problem is that it is fused at 90. they're giving perfect world numbers where the infinity gives closer to real world numbers. You can do both and still be cea compliant. The sony amp will make 900 rms watts if lightning hits it! We also have to keep in mind the price you paid for it though. $180 bucks for an amp is not that bad, and if it makes you happy then enjoy it!

So did you phone BB on me or what?
They cancelled my fcsking order. Yes, cancelled. I was all ready to go pick it up today. I got pissed off and phoned, he said the computer was incorrect and there really wasnt one in stock.
Said to myself, ok, we'll just ship it. Price is back to normal now.
Guess Im being told in more ways than one to get the darn Infinity, heh.
Nice catch on the 90/98, makes perfect sense to me. I also agree 100% on the amp output, 14v is about the best you're gonna get, more like 13.8.
Cheers!

Meh, Sony and thier rootkits anway.
