cold air intakes?
Not worth the money if you are buying them for hp or milage. you end up getting maybe 2-5hp, and even that is generous. What the do however is change the sound of your motor, and look cool. If you have a turbo, it really make the whine noticable. Most factory airboxes have baffles and such to muffle the sound of the engine. For me it is worth the money just because of the fact that now I have a lot more room in the battery area. Also, the turbo sound is pretty cool.
the trick to cold air intakes is....
a. don't just buy a short ram. unless you get a heat sheild for it. true cold air should be well away from your motor. typical gains should be in the 9 - 13% hp gains.
b. get a header and exhaust. your wasting most of your gains by bringing in a ton of air that you can't get out. your stock exhaust WILL NOT be able to handle that much air. never!
a good true cold air, header, exhaust combo can see 16 - 22% gains on a dyno.....this is usually going downhill with a tail wind.
if you just want your ride to sound better and gain a little hp then a even the cheapest short ram will make you happy. nothing better then your 140hp motor slurping air like crazy to give a guy an ego boost.
just don't try to kill any 350Z's or you'll get your a$$ handed to you.
