fried speaker?

fried speaker?

i have a set of diamond audio m661 and the other day i noticed that one of the speakers wasnt working just the tweeter i took it out and tryed hooking it up to an amp and i could not get anything to happen if you press on the cone it still moves freely does anyone know if its totally done? thanks

You need to have someone check it with an ohm meter, but from your little test I'd say it's open circuited. Check the tinsel leads to see if they are still connected. Then get it tested with an ohm meter, should be around 3.2 ohms. If it's dead it will be infinite, or maybe zero if it's shorted but then your amp would protest and you'd know already. Do you own a multimeter?

Yeah i do have a multimeter how do i test it just hook it up to the amp again and touch the terminals? If it reads anything besides a 3.2 then its no good?

Dont hook it to the amp, with the speaker disconnected, touch the black and red leads of the MM to the + and - of the speaker. have the MM set to Ω

3.2 is approximate. Get a reading using MTT's instructions and let us know what you measured.

i just tested my speaker it didnt read anythijg tried a speaker i knew was good and it read 3.4 ohms so i take it shes hooped i was looking at upgrading anyway onlyvproblem is im straped for cash right now i fouhd a site that has the hex's for $199 american i was wondering what the m661 werelike compared to the hex series since i cant afford what i want right now
