Anyone familier with the Mazda3 and front speakers?

I am replacing my factory 5X7" with 6.5". I noticed on the door panel that although the front looks like a 6.5 grill its actually only got holes drilled through where the 5X7 would fit. My question is is this going to block sound? I have been debating cutting them right out and using the grills that came with my new speakers. Suggestions?

it will block some sound, but it won't make any appreciable difference compared to if it were drilled for round speaker. Cutting your factory door panl and using the aftermarket grill will look weird since the grill will stick out like a sore thumb and the speaker will be recessed quite a bit behind it. Just leave the door panel as is unless your ready to go full custom.

I am toying with the idea of just drilling the rest of the holes out.... I will try one at the bottom where you won;t see it to see what it looks like.

all the drilled holes will be "white-ish" although those panels are moulded in a close to finished color plastic, they are still painted/dyed so the area you drill out will stick out like a sore thumb. but go for it

That's what I was concerned about and why I was going to try an inconspicuous one first. I hate to have spent all this money to lose some sound out of the fronts but if its minimal I guess its no big deal.

they are 6x8" speakers. since you want to go 6.5" speaker just make an adapter plate and make sure that the speaker hole lines up with the hole of the grill. then you should be ok.
