"getting decent midbass"

I just installed some pheonix gold 6" mids and tweets in the front doors of a 2000 ford taurus where the stock 6x8's were. Made my own baffles out of 1/4" mdf. I also installed some 5" mids and tweets in the rear doors. I used the 1/4" mdf initially just to get everything in place. The midbass was a little weak.
When i made my baffles out of 3/4" mdf, about a month later, everything improved dramitically! Now i have strong midbass, and the woofers are not moving as much as before, even though i now have more midbass, and everything sounds cleaner. Although i had to make some modifications to make everything fit, in the end it was worth it! Bottom line, if you need more midbass, and have the patience, find a way to mount your door speakers in 3/4" mdf! It is well worth your time and effort!

hmmm, i guess theres something to be said about mass huh? Try some modeling clay around the speaker too, i hear it does wonders with the clarity also. Is your door deadened with something like dynamat (eww) or any sort of sound deadener? You'll hear a huge improvement on the midbass and clarity from doing that too.
