2 Hidden 8's vs 1 visable 10"
2 Hidden 8's vs 1 visable 10"
I’m planning a rather involved install for my 93 civic hatch and I would like some opinions. I’m debating finding a pair of shallow 8" subs and making a fiberglass enclosure where the rear speakers would have been or doing a false floor with a TDX 10" where my spare tire well was. Can anyone offer some pro's and cons for both options and perhaps offer some suggestions for some shallow but quality 8"s.

Ben

2 high quality 8 inch subs such as Polk Momos would work nicely. Match that to some component speakers up front and this would be a great SQ setup.
The nice thing about 8 inchers is they can work well in small .35 cubic foot sealed boxes.
Or kicker also has some nice 8 inch square subs that work like a 10 inch put take bigger boxes.

If you go the 8" route, make sure the 8's will play the full music-spectrum. Some 8's will not be able to play 20-35Hz. 2 - 8's will give may give more cone area, but a single 10" may yeild more bass because of xmax. A single 10" may also play the full music-specturm.

^ That's a pretty vague statement to just say a single 10 will give more bass because of more xmax. What if the two 8s have the same xmax? What if the 10 has less xmax? Two 8s yielding more cone area and the same xmax will mean more air displaced = more bass. One 8 may not play as low as loudly as a single 10, but two 8s probably sure could.
Two 8s vs 1 10. It's a tough call to make. I'm in a bit of the same quandry with my new system.
