Popping Sound Only When All Speakers Connected?

Hi…

Have a quick question about speakers popping when turning off the car.

I installed a (cheap) four channel amp and four speakers (Infinity). When I turn the car off I get the famous popping sound.

But while troubleshooting the popping sounds I discovered the following.
It seems to only be there when I connect all four speakers.
Could this be caused by my cheap amp? I have replaced all grounds and as mentioned the pop is gone when I only have pair connected.
        Cheers!

Agreed. That's a humdinger. I've been designing amps for many years and have no idea what would cause that. (off the top of my head of course )

edit: What amp is this? Someone may have it and be able to confirm that this is not normal operation.

Its an amp I pulled from the closet... I believe its a PYRAMID Super Blue PB-670GX (I hear laughter now).

        It is old...

My delima is if I go ahead and buy a new amp will it solve the problem.

Are you in Ottawa (Sens)? I'll lend you an amp to try.

this is a humdinger... and after pondering it I am still only going to give a wild guess. I am guessing that there is a difference in potential between the front and rear output stages, this way it would be negated when bridged or in 2 channel... I guess there is deviation between parts control and maybe a true independent design...

        Gent,

Thanks for the replies. I think I am going to bite the bullet and pick up a new 4 channel amp. I think it will save headaches in the future as well.

Now to find a place to buy the amp from in Canada...

        Cheers!
