Cavalier 6.5" components
Cavalier 6.5" components
hello all, i have a 97 cavalier 2 door, and i want to mount 6.5" cdt hd62 components in those doors. the stock speaker size is 4x6, so i planned to make a mdf baffle, and mount the speaker to that. from what ive heard the window clearance is 2.5", and the hd-6 midrange has a mounting depth of 2.75", so when u factor in the 1/2" mdf, i should have a 1/4" clearance betwene the window. im just concerend because i read before that someone with a cavalier and cdt ef-61's had to cut the door trim after this because the speaker was hitting the back of the door trim. my question is, if i run into this problem can i just stick the grille on the speaker and kinda flex the door trim over it? or would i have to hack up my door trim panel?>
thanks alot for any help

This is not a problem. When you build yourself an MDF spacer, you're building out your depth at the same time. I usually use 3/4" MDF for that car.
I paint it so it won't be too visible from the cabin and dynamat the door prior to the spacer installation. It works great.
Have fun.

ya thats what i was thinking, with the grille, but hopefully it wouldnt warp the trim to the poin tthe clip near that spot wont go in the holee... it looks like i mihgt need to use 1" mdf or bigger.. the clearance from front of steel to window is 1.5 inches, and the mounting depth on the speaker is 2.75". so i would need 1.25" mdf in order to clear the window...which seems pretty damn big...the door track idea sounds like a good one, but wont it put alot more stress on the window itself because it is kind of warped with bigger screws?
