Quick question on high level set up

I know it's not the ideal set up, but i'm adamant on using the stock head unit in my truck ('97 Ford Ranger) and I don't want to spend anymore money on this, especially since I think the following idea should work.

From the top .....

- from the stock source using 16g wire to the high level input on an amp
- from the amp's RCA out to an EQ (EQ only has RCA ins and outs)
- from the EQ back to the amp's RCA ins
- etc etc

I don't see why it shouldn't work, but I thought i'd ask first. I don't want to have to spend more money on a LOC if I don't have to and the amp and EQ will be all close anyway.

Anyone have any idea if this'll work for sure?

Not too sure I like the idea of using both types of inputs on the amp.......why not skip the eq?

but I am curious how that will work out...keep us posted.

You're thinking along the same lines I am with using both inputs.

Ideally I would have purchased an EQ with high level inputs, but I wasn't planning quite this far ahead. I'd skip the EQ, but I know it'd help (despite the lack of SQ coming from the source in the first place ..... I know, I KNOW! ). I think i'd sooner spend the extra few bucks on a LOC rather than sell the current EQ only to buy another (more expensive) EQ with high level ins.

do it without the eq for now and bear with it until you have the funds for LOC's, then it'll seem like a cheap upgrade?

not sure it'll work anyway....I think most amps only accept one or the other(high or low) inputs...but I might be wrong. Let us know, I'm curious too. Let's see...head unit to amp..processing...to low level outs...to eq input...processing...out of eq...back to amp input...processing...out to speakers!!! Even if it works, I'd be really curious to compare the signal quality at the end.

Yeah, but that's the kicker - I can afford to buy them, I just don't want to spend the money. I don't know if having a mortgage makes one cheap or practical or frugal or what, but i'm just not interested in spending gobs of money on performance stuff or audio stuff as I used to be. (please don't ban me! lol)

I figured if this would work then i'd go for it ..... from what i've read spending $25 on a LOC nets me a cheap pos that'll probably break if I look at it too hard and to me $90 at FS is crazy.

It's not like the truck is sealed from noise well to begin with, so ..... as I pointed out above, if it would work i'd run it, but i'll have to see.

I don't blame you, I'm Captain Cheap azz.....4 kids and a mortgage will do that.

Recipe for disaster in the making. The amp will take one set of inputs only. Buy yourself a good LOC. What are you going to use the EQ for and why exactly do you think you need it? More info on the balance of the system please.
