Hi All...

After trying to figure out how I could manage to install a pair of 8" subs in the rear deck of my civic I came to a sudden and terrible realization; I can't.

The trunk spring bars (torsion bars?) cross under the rear deck which greatly limits woofer depth and ignoring this factor, i'm not a huge fan of IB style subs in cars. So...it looks like i'm going to make fiberglass enclosures on each side of the trunk behind the wheel wells. I have room for 8's or 10's depending on woofer depth but i think that's the limit. I enjoy decent bass levels (4 SDX15's in my smallish home theatre do a nice job in the house) but i don't need anything too crazy. I was looking at a pair of Trio8's from CSS (i'm a fan of their products) or perhaps their 10" subs but they start getting a little too deep and a little too heavy. Does anyone else here have a smaller car running 8" subs (or 10" for that matter)? Are you content with the levels?

I run 4 MTX 5500 series 8s in the spare tire well of my 04 SX2.0 (Neon). They bump along great.

 

Actually i have a 15" tempest kicking around that could fit in the spare tire well...

 

the spare tire well in a Civic works well. I made a fibreglass enclosure in my 96 civic spare tire well that fit 2 10's originally and now I have a single 12 in aprox 1.6 cubic ft sealed. who needs a spare tire anyways?

 

I removed the spare tire in my old 1990 Mustang and used it for increasing the volume in some early enclosures. I hadn't really considered it for the Civic (flat tires suck) but I primarily drive the car to work so maybe it's not a bad idea removing it for subwoofer usage. This could really change the bass factor for the Civic!

A friend of mine removed the torsion bars in his 06 si coupe and replaced them with gas shocks, Worked out very nice. I had a box made that takes up about half my trunk with my coupe but it fits in there perfect and sounds awesome.
