I took out my computer main board and processor to dust. Bad mistake. Now when i put it back the computer doesnt even boot. the speaker doesnt even make a beep. I felt the processor and it is hot indicating maybe its working. I checked the diagnostic LED's on the main board and it gives me a memory failure indication according to the manual. I tried using different working memory module and still no luck. I know for sure that they both cant be gone. The diagnostic LED is not indicating a dead CPU. Maybe my motherboard is gone. How do I check to see if its gone anyway possible? what is wrong here?

by the way its a P3 1ghz and an MSI socket 370 motherboard.

 

I have no clue how to fix your problem but for removing dust from a computer use compressed air. Either direct from an air compressor (be reasonable with the pressure) or you can get cans of compressed air for removing dust from electronics.

Tell my you did not use a cloth to dust the mother board?
Did you take any procautions against static?

 

i used a brush to brush dust offf the mainboard which might have caused static any way of testing the mainboard out from scratch.

this is a lesson learned

but why is the processor getting hot when i touch it, i must be processing somthing for it to get hot?

 

if power go's to the processor, it's gonna create heat and get hot.

If the board is giving a memory error, either use known good memory compatible with that board, or test your memory in another machine and then try one stick of memory at a time in each slot and see if the system will post. If not, then yeah it could be the motherboard.

Might be worthwhile to check with MSI if there's any other possible reasons for that LED error (memory elseware)

Most likely cause is that the memory just wasn't seated properly.
