hey all

something I've wondered about for awhile.....say I had 2 dual 4ohm subs, wired at 4 ohms together and run them like that for 6 months. Then I decide to get a new amp and want to run them at 1 ohm until I can afford to get a second amp, at which time I would be switching the subs to 2 ohm load on their own amp.

will this effect the life span of my subs???

reason being. I'm looking at getting a new amp/s. My subs are dual 4ohm, 750RMS. Currently running at 4 ohms.

The amp I'm looking at is 1500RMS at 1 ohm. 750 at 2 ohm. this would be perfect for me. I could use just the one amp, but, I don't really want to run my subs at 1 ohm. So, I was thinking that I could run my subs at 1 ohm until I can afford to buy the second amp, and switch the subs to 2 ohms.

I would accually prefer to run the subs at 4 ohms, but, I don't think I'll find an amp the pushes 1500 rms at 4 ohms without selling a kidney.

what do you all think? subs will be fine.....or will it shorten their life span?

Dude, you have confused me here. First you have 2 single 4 ohm subs, that means that if they are wired in stereo to a 2 channel amp, you have two 4 ohm subs. They can be wired in series to 8 ohm on a 2 channel amp bridged or a mono amp (but a total waste of power), or wired in parallel to a mono amp that is stable to 2 ohm. These subs cannot run at 1 ohm, no matter what way you slice it.

Now the subs have magically morphed into dvc 4 ohm subs running at 4 ohm which is a series parallel circuit only. No issues running them at 1 ohm or 4 ohm or even a higher load on a mono amp. Maybe I'm just tired after playing with peoples stereos all day but I think I am seeing things correct here.

Run the subs at 1 ohm and be done with it. Will you hear a difference? With that amount of power be it with one amp or two, I highly highly doubt it.

 

ya if they are 2 dual 4 ohm subs then u can run at 1,4 or 16 if u get bored haha. i dont see why you would buy a second amp when running at 1 ohm they will get approx 750 each teh same as having two of the same amps... the difference between teh 2 wold be minimal.

o ya, my amp runs 1600rms bridged at 4 ohm hahaha

 

Ya dont waste your money with a second amp. It will run fine. If those are DVC sub and have 4 ohm coils then wire it all up for 1 ohm mono and if the amp is spec'd out at 1 ohm mono. Everything should run smooth. You will not gain anything by going to two amps. Except the cool truck full of amps syndrom. Both and amp and the subs are designed to do exactly this.
