If you're moving - DONT call u-haul

Hey folks, the following is just my complaint about u-haul and their lack of assistance amd follow-through.

We set a reservation for a 16ft cube van/truck a bit back, setup for saturday the 17th. We set it up on somewhat short notice, but they guaranteed it to be available. So great...sweet service...

at about 4:30pm on friday (the 15th), i get a voice mail saying the reservation is null, they don't have a truck availble...sorry, but tough luck.

So....that was pretty well a kick in the nuts considering saturday is our only available day to move due to various deadlines. So we phoned him back, complained, and he just said sorry. Phoned uhaul canada, complained, they were nice said they'd help out and if they could get anything they'd let us know by 6pm. (likely just if anyone cancelled, we were put on a list to get the cancellation truck)

In the mean time...not having any faith in u-haul i went thru the yellow pages, phoned every rental company in edmonton looking for a truck....last place i called, rent-a-wreck amazingly had a truck for tomorrow morning. So i booked it, nice fellow, good prices.

Phoned back to uhaul to be courteous and cancel whatever they may have been working on for us only to be told, "oh that request was cancelled long ago. You don't need to do anything more."

So....bottom line is.....

U-HAUL SUCKS

Rent-a-wreck nice and courteous, no troubles at all. Just essentially writing this, so that if you ever have the choice between companies for moving or rentals, pick the latter over u-haul!!!

haha, i hear what you're saying, of course it's the last place.

In this case, the last place listed in the yellow pages (before that section ended) was the one that could help out. Moral of the story, is start at z instead of a if phoning all places in a phone book (w is the letter that came thru for me).

A buddy of mine moved a year ago or so and went with U-Haul, when we were finished with the truck we filled the gas tank until it stopped pumping. Hit it a few more times to top it off and drove across the street to drop it off. After we got there and the guy looked everything over he said we did not top the gas off high enough. Solution, 1: we could either go across the street and top it off ourselves. 2: We'd be charged an extra 30 dollars for them to fill it. I told the guy what total BS this was and that we just filled it. He insisted it wasn't full. So I very sarcastically told him to give me the keys, we drove it back across the street and topped it off. About 2 dollars and half a gallon later it was full and we drove it back over.

Just to be a dick I kept the gas station receipt to show him. My friend phoned them the next day to tell them what a joke this whole situation was, to which he was given a very half a$$ed apology. I would have to agree go with anyone other than U-Haul. I've used several other companies since then and each one was a fantastic experience!
