2 amps for 1 sub

Using 2 amps to power 1 sub, I think this is possible? I don't get it though. How is this done? Would you hook one amp to one voicecoil and the second amp to the other vc? Or does it have anything to do with strapping cuz i don't know what that is either lol.

I would like to compete but after reading the db drag race rules I found out that I would suck it up cuz I would have to be in class c (I have two 15's). But I still have my 10' orion h2 that I am going to make a ported box for and I thought that if I could get another infinity 1200.1 amp i would have 2600Wrms (Each amp is 1300Wrms at 2 ohms) to give the sub but I don't know how to use two amps for one sub. So if you guys could educate me on this subject that would be awesome. Thanx.

well yes it can be done. but if you are just gonna connect one amp to one coil and a nother amp to the other coil. is gets tricky.. first off the amps must me the same and you will have to tune both amps to put out the exact same output. this can be done with a digital volt meter. go to http://mobile.jlaudio.com/support_pages.php?page_id=143 for more info on that.

if that link does not work go to jlaudio.com and go to support and go to adj gains.

the better way to connect 2 amps to 1 sub is to get amps that can be strapped. IE the kicker 1200.1 or visonik 900xd. with those two amps they use a wire the kicker uses a mono headphone wire to connect the 2 amps then you use the neg from one amp and the plus from the other amp for the outputs. the visonik uses a mono RCA.

now but with doing that kicker says that the 1200.1 is one ohm stable but when you strap to of them together you can only go to 2 ohm.. now i have strap both the kickers and visoniks and i have not gone below 2 ohms when strapped but you might be able to go lower although kicker does not recomend it.

So if I bought another 1200.1 Infinity amp and hooked it up like in the picture I could power my Orion H2 with great success? Lol.

If i did set the gains exactly the same would there be a problem with the amps putting out the signals to the subs not simultaneously? One amp will have the signal first and be able to give it to the sub faster. Will this signal be apart between the amps to the point that it damages the sub?

You will find that all amps with the same model numbers are rated the same. But when you look at amp birth sheets they all vary in rms power. example being two identical MTX 4001 are both rated at 400 rms but when you look at the birth sheet one is rated at 438@2ohm and the other is rated at 406watts @2ohms. So you will never be able to adjust each amp to achieve equal wattage per coil.
