So here is the thing,
My neibour wants me to install a new system in his 1990 Mercury Cougar (supercharged).
the damm car has only 50 clicks on it and it's in showroom conditon (i'm enveus).
Anyway I got him a nice deck and i need to find out what size speakers are in the doors and pillars.
They look like they could be either 5 1/4's or 5x7's.
Before i start on this project I would like to know if anyone has worked on one of these and know's the sizes that come with the car and what I can install before i start pulling panels off.

IIRC it is a typical Ford - 5x7 / 6x8 in all 4 corners

 

Yup, and some of them have factory amplified systems that are also best bypassed. You do a oversize 6.5" or component in the doors if you like by making a mounting template from 1.4" black abs or mdf.

 

yea they will be 5x7 it is the same as the 1990 tbird that i had.. if you need any more info wire colors or anything let me know the XR7 are sweet

if your wondering you can find the Factory amp under the back seat deck inside the trunk... I got a 90 Cougar from somone as a project car but never got done so its sitting looking for a new home LOL

heres a tip Disconnect the rear amp and run new speaker wires all around the factory setup won't allow a passthrough with another amp so I unplugged the factory and left the factory wires alone and ran all new wiring

and I am almost positive the doors are 5 1/4.... enyways I need to take a drive up to the building where my cars are stored so i can get parts I will check out the size for ya
