Sub/Enclosure q's
Sub/Enclosure q's
Hello Everyone,
I have a pair of old school 8's that I figured the best thing for me to do with them is to put them in a box under my bench seat in my 2000 f150 x/cab.
I took some simple measurements of the space under the 70 of the 70/30 split bench and from what I can come up with is about 1.3 cubic feet of space (without the subs). I was thinking of a ported enclosure with the subs facing downwards, and the port (I dont know what type/size/length/freq.) facing the front of the truck.
Aside from the port, here is where I get lost. The only information I have on the subs is what is printed on the sticker on the magnet. I tried googling it and doing some digging but to no avail. I guess they are just too old.
This is what is printed on the sticker.....
Earthquake
Model EQ-88
48 OZ Magnet

2" Polymide voice coil

It would be great if I could find some help with this.

If you wanna do a ported enclosure, your best best is an aeroport to the side. After sub and port displacement, your probably looking at about 0.9-1 cubic foot of airspace which can work.
Using a 3" aeroport, if you have roughly a cubic foot of airspace, a port 12" in length will give you a tuning of roughly 38hz

My maximum depth is 11" (if the port were to fire foreward) so would I have to go with a larger/shorter in this case?
Is 38hz reasonable for 8"ers? I just didnt think that they could perform well at that frequency, but if they can than woo frigen hoo.
