Need Advice on amp for SOLOBARIC's
Hi guys, long time reader, first time poster.
I'm ready to but some new audio equipment for my car, I've heard nothing but great things about the kicker solobaric subs and have been looking into getting a set + an amp.
First off, I have some credit at a store, so I'll be buying from them, they have good prices and a good selection. My budget only allows for 1 amp, I need some help deciding on which one.....
Phoenix Gold x600 600w (600rms@1-4ohm) mono channel......aprox $260
or
Pheonix Gold r8.0:1 800w (800rms@2ohm) mono.............aprox $245
I've spent hours trying to find a good comparison, but I could find a decent, indepth review (just very brief consumer reviews), so I'm not sure which would be better for the mere $15 differnce.
Thoes look to be the best amps they have, and its my understanding that Phoenix gold makes some very high quality amplifiers.
How are sony xplode amps?
they have a Sony Xplod XM-SD61X (600rms@2ohm) for aprox $195
Onto the subs, theyre 2006 L7's, but I'm not sure which would be the best match for the previously mentioned amps. Would I want 2ohm or 4 ohm voice coils? The x600 sub is rated at 1-4ohm, so would would the same model sub sound better at 1 or 2 ohms?
How close of a match should the sub RMS be to the amp?
Ive been considering the following.....
2x 8" L7's @450rms each
2x 10" L7's @600rms each (if 1 amp will be ok for the time being, I could buy another one down the line)
1x 12" l7 @750rms
what do you guys think of the 15" (1000rms), its the same price as 2x 8".
Also, hypotheticaly, which amp would you get for a 1000w rms sub?
This is a rather large purchase for me, I dont intend to buy more audio equipment for some time (unless I have to grab 1 more amp to make things just right) so I want to make sure I get the best combination possible.
Thanks in advance,
Ankar

My budget is somewhat flexible, I'll spend up to $250 on an amp, but considering that I want these to last me "forever" I'm willing to spend an extra $50-100.
The 2x8" are about $50 more than 1x 12", and 2x10" is about $50 more than 2x8"....
what do you think about the amps i listed?

I suppose a healthy balance between the two, I'd like something that really pounds, but without compramising the sq too much. To be honest I'm quite a novice at car audio, I figured the solobarics would be the loudest, best sounding subs in the range that I'm looking at, but I could be mistaken.

under powering a sub can be harmful if the signal to the sub isn't clear. so make sur eyou get a decent amp, or ya it could be potentially dangerous to your woofer. it's almost always better to over power than underpower

Oh, I didnt know that (like I said, i'm a novice). What would be considred dangerously underpowered? Would the aforementioned situation (750rms sub, 600rms amp) qualify?
well i'm not a pro either..but this is what i've been told during my time as a car audio enthusiast. as long as your 600 rms..was a clean 600 rms i dont' think it would be a problem at all, but do dodge the sony amps haha
