What do I need to connect my ipod to my Alpine HU, do I need the Alpine KCA-420i ipod interface or can I do it other ways (I want it to be cd quality so i dont thinkid do it through the FM radio)..

 

This hooks into the Ipod's line out, and connects to the Alpine head unit via the ai-net cd changer input...and also charges the ipod.

You can also use something like this:
It connects to the Ipod's headphone output, and connect to the Alpine head unit via the ai-net cd changer input...however it is not as clean as through the line out, nor does it charge the ipod.

oh i meant CD quality from the cd's that I rip. Basically I was trying to say that i didn't want something like FM quality

 

So I just plug this in the back of the head unit, I didnt install the HU so is it easy to take off and plug this in? (sorry if i sound dumb)

 

Encode your mp3's at a higher rate than 128K, personally, I use Exact Audio Copy and the Lame encoder at 256K or 320K.

 

what model is your alpine HU? this years alpines have a full speed connection which is alot cheaper, kce422I i believe is the part #...but if your deck is not a current model then you will need the kca-420i

 

I have the CDA-9833 Alpine HU. Does this mean I need the KCA-402 adapter AND that thing gleepoy suggested?

 

Yes, just plug the adaptor into the ai-net input on the back of the head unit. If you get the 1st adaptor in my post, there are also 2 other small wires that supply power to charge the ipod. Hook the red to power, and black to a ground.

 

that one is all well and good, but you dont get control of the ipod from your deck...with the KCA420I you control the ipod from the deck, its just more convienent, it does cost a little more though
