remote wire relay

i`ve been reading a few posts on other forums about adding a relay for the remote power wire. i have 4 amps plus a cap. so far i`ve had no problems, but as a preventative measure think i should look into it.

any suggestions as to what i should use?

yeah i`m not fussy on using relays but i`m a little worried about loading up that circuit with 4 amps plus cap, but so far no problems.

Get the relay in there like now or at least in the bare minimums, put a fuse on the remote on line, 1 amp max. A ounce of prevention now is going to save the cd player going to the service shop for a blown remote on driver.

i would recommend a 1/2 amp fuse most transistors driving the remote are usually 1/2 amp
also most manufatures use a current limiting resistor on there exept for the dumbies at pioneer

Canadian Tire or any auto supply store will sell you a standad 12v relay.
Use your remote out from the deck to turn on the relay, it will draw very little curent. Use your 12v amp power, switched by the N.O. contacts of the relay to power the turn on of the amps. Thats the line where you need a 1 amp inline fuse, also avalable at CT.
I'm wondering why you also mentioned your cap. Does it have a remote turn on?

The standard auto relay is rated for 30 amps. Usually used for things like heaters fam motors, re-defogger etc. etc.

I have 2 caps, with glowwy blue and red digital readout. They don't have a remote turm on. They automatically time out, when the voltage is stable.
