Old School to Newbskul
New to the forum. Great reading on here.

Had a system in an '87 jetta back in the early 90's when I was in college. Got married and that ended. It's been 15 years and I was cleaning out the basement and found some of my old equipment. Found a brand new amp still in the plastic wrap and a few sets of mids and a pair tweets. After my stock cd player quit, I installed a new head unit, which is way cheaper and does way more than back in the day units. The stock speakers sounded pretty nice on the HU amp. After finding the amp and speakers, it was like Christmas again. My car is now 14 years old and I don't mind cutting it up a little and testing.
So far on my civic I've deadened the doors, rear quarters, some of the roof, and the trunk lid. The trunk lid is an ongoing experiment. That thing is hard to get quiet. Next is the fender wells and at some point the entire floor. The floor will have to wait until later in the year or next year. I drive this car every day to work and can't afford to have it sit in the yard torn apart for more than a few hours. However, I have entertained the thought of just having the drivers seat in it.
I've got 1 12" sub in a sealed box, front 4" and tweaters, and 3 1/2" mids in the rear. The sub is new. The mids and tweats are old. I've got some 5 1/4" and soft doam tweaters on the way for the front doors and 6.5" and soft doam tweaters for the rear deck in the near future. Right now there is a 75w/ch RMS 4 ch. amp driving the mids and highs with the rear channels bridged running the sub at 150w. It's OK sounding but will be better once the larger "round" speakers get fitted with the soft doam tweaters. I've got a set of 3/4" sony's in right now and they are fairly brite. I'm going for a more natural sound overall.
For power I've run 8awg wire to the amp and have a cap to install. The system doesn't dim the headlights now but I want to even out the load on the power wire by using the cap. I've already started the big 3 change over. Done the battery ground and the engine to chassis ground. Next is the alternator to battery wire. Will do that when I get a high output alternator.
Plans are to get a 2nd sub, 500w mono block to drive the subs, HO alternator, 2awg wire running to the amps, 1awg alternator to battery wire, more sound deadening in stratigic places (mostly everywhere
, ported and tuned sub box (possibly a cross firing configuration), and if there's money to be found, a new paint/body job. The car is rusting. lol!
That's it for now. I'm on a budget so I'm doing all this stuff myself. In the future I may even attempt some custom buildouts and kick panels. We'll see how ambicous I feel. This is daddy's toy. Kids, ride in your mom's truck. The civic is dad's toy.

Sounds pretty good so far, the one thing I would say though is that i wouldnt worry to much about the H/O alternator if you have already done the wiring upgrades and you have a good battery. Im running the stock alt in my 2002 civic running a JL A6450 (600w) and JL GMAX (1200w) and am having no problem and I've had the system in their for a couple of years now with no problem. Also Julian Ridi aka "Avidedtr" is running the stock alt on his fit which i think only puts out like 60amps? at best and is running quite a bit of power and he also has not had any issues with his alt either. So unless you plan on running alot of bass at high volumes all the time then I dont think you have to worry about it.
10-15 more years?!? I'll probably be dead by then. lol! Have to do this now to enjoy it. My daughter will be driving in about 5 years and will probably want to take my car. Main reason is it's usually in clean condition inside and it doesn't smell. It helps keeping the kids out.
I drive a '96 civic ex sedan. Not exactly sporty but it serves the purpose well. Plus insurance is cheaper on 4 doors rather than 2.
