Wiring harness help needed...
Hey!
So i have this 'pre-wired' wiring harness with no idea where the ends go. Sure one end is in the trunk with the factory HU and the rest up the front, but which?
Here's a pic with indication letters to start the game!
A, B & C are obviously plugs, but to what?
A to C is car length long.
D is long
E is short
F just might be for my chime speaker (?)
Game on!

No worries
I don't know much about the Cavaliers, but I believe they needed this integration harness for the door chimes and some other features to work in the car, when replacing the factory head unit. I am sure that some others here on the board can put in their .02 on the matter. http://www.shopperschoice.com/item_METRA-GMRC_01_path_7_item_26620.html

A-looks to plug into the factory HU harness
B-if I'm correct, is for a pioneer deck
C-I believe goes to the factory head unit, installed into the trunk.
D-may be a remote turn on wire for an amp
E- I'm not sure, looks like it's comming off the aftermarket harness. What color is the wire it's attached to?
F-not to sure either, possibly door chimes, or other security devices

Cool thanks man... love this site and being able to get help.
A. Sweet.
B. You are correct, Pioneer.
C. Must be as its a car-length loom.
D. Ok that would make sense too.
E. Is spliced into Red and labelled 'ACC'. Is this the wire i tap into the +12v (ie: wiper fuse?)
F. I think is for the chime speaker
I'll give that a go and see what happens.
Not too many more dumb questions to go!
Cheers!

ok, the red wire E, is the turn on wire for the aftermarket head unit when the key is turned on. They would have had to use that to tap into a wire under the dash because the factory harness does not have an accesory source.
A - plugs into factory radio harness
B - plugs into Pioneer cd player
C - plugs into factory radio (relocated to drivers side rear quarter panel)
D - is the remote on wire to run to the back
E - is the ignition wire to be spliced into the main ignition circuits
F - is for the chime speaker if you want the chimes to work
Guess someone could have put something in the box for you that said this as well. I'll have a talk with this person.........

Hey MR2...
Sweet as
cheers for the confirmation.
Hey while you are around, can you tell me how to run the rear fills from the HU?
I will be running the 2 RCA pairs from the 'Front' and 'Sub" outputs (RCA outs) but cant run the rear fills from the other output (on the short wire) because I would need another amp.
Do i splice the rear speakers into the new loom as if i were running the speakers directly off the HU (without a harness) ? I'm assuming the speaker wires coming out of the plug block are post-internal-amp whereas the RCA's on the short wire are simply a line out.

Thats pretty much the last dumb question apart from the ones when i get stuck taking the dash apart tomorrow
Cheers!

This is to funny i know everyone starts somewhere, but its really just common sense.Heck its even wired up for you
take that gray plug, plug it in to the harness from the factory HU
now that other plug goes back into the stock hu where ever you mount it
and that black plug goes to your new HU
