Phantom centre channel

With the sub channel on our lil wonderII no longer in use, I've been reading up on other uses for it.
The manual mentions using it as a phantom center channel.
Just what is that exactly?
Its on the sub channel, so I'm gonna guess it called phantom because it won't be able to play the high tones?
Is there any particular type of speaker made for this "phantom" center channel?
Would you use one, do you use one?
pro/cons?

peace

Really? No one can recommend any specific type for a center channel speaker?
How about any 250 w RMS 7 3/4 inch mid I can find? lol
Any easy picks?
Is one allowed in front of the b pillars in the street classes used as a center channel ??

Their terminology is peculiar.. How can it be a 'phantom' center channel if there is a speaker driven by an amplifier channel? Perhaps they call it that since there is no processor involved If it is only playing sub tones, it's not really a center channel, just a dash mounted woofer.

So I guess the first question is, what frequency range does that amplifier channel have?

Yeah, weird wording. Chinese interpritation I bet..
The 5th channel frequency goes up to 200hz.
So I guess you made me answer one of my own questions.
I should get a woofer ,with good 200hz and lower performance huh?

Umm duh..
wonder if I can't mod that... yeah right... tinker tinker...BOOOM, sizzle

Even so, having some of the lows coming from the front is the best thing that I ever did.

My application was slightly different though. (4 6.5"s playing 120 and under)

IMO that channel may be better used with a pair of bass shakers, but if you have the room for a woofer, it's a decent option as well.

Aura bass shakers?
Those things still around? I remember reading about an iasca winner a number of years ago that had those under the front seats. Early 90's Mustang it was. I was impressed!!
I'll have to check that out Dukk. Thanks.

Wasted- Kinda my thought, we need some lower freq. up front. Good to hear we should so some listening improvment regardless of what we pick. Thanks

Checked those bass shakers out. Wow are they ever cheaper than I thought. Still have great reviews though.
The BIG ones are 50w 4 ohm ..I'd run two, one under each seat. The 5th channel is 270w rms at 2 ohms/Class a/b .. Sounds fine with a little tweaking.

BUT.. From the bit I understand , they will not add SPL ? They'll only let you 'feel' the lower bass?

Was thinking I'd like to add some SPL ..

They won't add any SPL but won't get you tossed out of a class for an up-front woofer either. I am always thinking on the SQ side and, for me, that includes bass shakers.

Yeah getting the boot from a class would suck, I think I understand the rules now though from re -re- re- reading.
Because I'm using the 5th channel for "bass/ spl" reproduction and its in front of the b pillar, I'd be out of street stock unless I unhooked them.
Even if they were behind the pillar, it would count towards my overall sub wattage, and with a <8" woofer on a a/b class. Screw that
Bass shakers it is. Dang I hope I can afford them and get all the rest done too, in 5 weeks

Thanks bro.
